Dean Has the Bat, Now Kerry Has the Hammer

i can't say i blame them for taking the idea, i mean it's been a phenomenal success with the dean campaign...

((and no, this isn't a bash, just an observation of the kerry campaign))

1. when is the bat going up again?
I'm almost sure he has broken Clinton's '95 record, but it would be nice to see the bat challenge us to raise another million or so in the last few days of the quarter.

2. Is this for real?
I thought the bat was kind of dumb (but it seems to work), but this is just silly. I hope his campaign did not waste too much time coming up with this.

Then again, it might just be me.

3. I like the bat better....imitation is the Best form of flattery and
I don't think they are going to be flattering the Dean campaign any other way.

12. It's tough to top the bat when its been enough to become a Dean staple.
Edited on Wed Sep-17-03 04:03 PM by w4rma
But, I think that all Democratic campaigns need a "bat" or a sledge"hammer" or a "fuse" or a stick of "dynamite" or a "crowbar", or a "fist", etc., etc. And if Kerry likes hammers more than bats, then more power to him. At first the hammer will seem like it's copying Dean, but eventually it'll become more entwined with the Kerry campaign (assuming he's around long enough for this to happen).

Note, deutsey makes a good point on how to expand on these themes in post #8.

that we need in a leader.

Bat light?

7. ?
You try to hit the nail right on the head, but your window of opportunity has failed, the road to success is a long one, paved
with unknowns, his campaign is lumbering down the street gaining ground, no one can stop it now, the door is open, we will not waiver

What was the question?

8. What I liked about the bat
was it's original context of knocking a homerun out of the park. I think the original graphic even had a baseball player holding a bat and pointing, like Babe Ruth did before he hit a homerun that time.

Very deeply mythic in its meaning to Americans...confidence in the face of challenge, Field of Dreams, and all that.

That's what was so powerful to me when the bat first came out (and I'm not a big baseball fan, either).

I think the bat by itself loses this symbolism. I hope the Dean campaign reconnects the original idea back with it.

that I liked the "bat better"..it had a deeper meaning for me and I'm sure many others!

14. Reminds me of Bartcop's hammer
but I like the little George "What me worry?" face and the "dustbin of history". Nice touches.

The good news is now Kerry supporters can be as impoverished as Dean supporters. "Feel the power of the hammer"!

...it's the highest form of flattery.

It's also good to use when you have no original ideas left.

First you have a Bat"

Now you have a "Blog"

Can we end the rouse and flattery, and just adopt Dean as the Nominee now?

19. Aw c'mon
Kerry should expect a little ribbing about this, but his ability to adapt to winning strategies should be a plus for him, not a sign of weakness.

He's a little slow in doing it, that's all, but I'm glad that recognition of effective strategies trumps stupid pride a bit.

20. that was DNC ribbing not Kerry ribbing
the post by steven r was to the new DNC blog. The Carville Begala challenge is the bat referred to.

Talk about flame-bait, that blog is sure to get, uh, spicy at least.
The DNC blog should be interesting to watch at any rate.
