Gephardt takes off the gloves with deanfacts.com

On Medicare:
"I think it's one of the worst federal programs ever..."
{Source: Dean in San Francisco Chronicle, 8/17/93}

"{Medicare is} one of the worst things that ever happened… a bureaucratic disaster..."
{Source: Dean in AP, 8/3/93}

On Social Security:
"The way to balance the budget, {Vermont Gov. Howard} Dean said, is for Congress to cut Social Security, move the retirement age to 70, cut defense, Medicare and veterans pensions, while the states cut almost everything else. "It would be tough but we could do it," he said."
{Source: New Orleans Times-Picayune, 3/5/95}

On raising the Social Security retirement age, to 70
"I absolutely agree we need to reduce the - I mean, to increase the retirement age. There will be cuts and losses of some benefits, but I believe that Senator Packwood {R-Oregon} is on exactly the right track, and we need to deal with the Social Security retirement age..."
{Source: Dean on CNN's Crossfire, 2/28/95}

1. ROFLMAO!
Gephardt has an anti-Dean website? He'd make better use of his resources trying to earn back the trust he shit on when he sold out the Senate Democrats on the Iraq resolution and missed (albeit symbolic) important labor votes while he was campaigning.

2. I'm not a Dean guy BUT.......
Give me a quote within the last five years. You people are going back eight, nine, ten years to find anything damaging.

Kind of makes me want to vomit all over this kind of thread.

5. ...
so much can be contained in those three little dots.

Looks like Gephardt's getting very creative with those little dots, gee, who do we know who uses creative editing, to take things out of context? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

10. Next, they'll uncover
What Dean wrote in his friends' high school yearbooks.

"Dean told Cindy Johnson to 'have a neat summer' but did he really mean it?"

11. of course you base this on
a thorough examination of the full quotes...in context...because you would never want to accuse a candidate so severly without having all the facts....right?

For an example...see the post below that explains Dean was talking about medicare in reference to his father's plight.....

8. if gephardt has so much free time,
if he has time to build this web site attacking Dean, then why doesn't he have time to make it to the 85% of congressional votes that he's missed, ie, why isn't he doing the job he was elected and paid to do?

9. Those of us around in 88
are now remembering what a weasle Gephardt is. I remember how he trashed Simon in 88. Now he is doing it again. Of the quotes I have checked (one) I found out he was discussing his father. Yea, that Medicare is the worst quote is in regards to his father having been in the hospital and still trying to get reimbursed for the bills. Nice guy that Gephardt. He started off dead last for me (yes I would have voted for Sharpton first) but he was moving up with his campaign. Now he is back down in the sewer. First he used his lesbian daughter to try to get out of his awful vote on DOMA and now this. I would vote for him against Bush but I would vote for Hitler against Bush so that isn't saying much at all.

15. Who has the picture...
of Gep and Lieb standing shoulder to shoulder
with fascist Bush?

I will take Dean anyday.

However, I think this race will be about whether
Clark can beat Dean. That's the story the media
wants to sell, I believe.

26. It's too bad that you Dean people
can't take a little of what you dish. Does every fucking thing have to be about your candidate? Those quotes are eight years old because Dean has not been in national politics. He doesn't get quoted on such things often. I'm really starting to think of Dean in the same way I do Bush! Not because of him but because his supporters are so rabid! For God's sake, Dean is the frontrunner! Did you think no other candidate would start trying to point out his bad side? How can you expect them to campaign without trying to take the steam out of Dean? I am so sick of your attitude that I am actually trying to stay away from here. I can see now, that I should. I'm sure your all will say "great" and that's too bad.

18. This would be funny if it weren't so pathetic.
Gephardt has really sunk to a new low, but then it's politics, right? I don't think Dean would bother trying to bring Gephardt down because Gep is doing a good job all by himself. These quotes are 8-10 years old for crying out loud.

Go to his website and read what he says about Social Security and Medicare NOW---in the year 2003! That's what I'm interested in. What would he do to make Social Security stronger and what would he do to make Medicare better and more efficient if he is elected. I have as much to lose as anybody else if the politicians start playing around with Social Security but before I believe that Dean hasn't changed his views on these entitlement programs I will have to hear it from his own lips, NOW, in 2003.

23. He's fighting fire with fire...Dean was pushpolling him in Iowa
Edited on Thu Sep-18-03 12:35 PM by blm
Pushpolling is a GOP tactic created by Lee Atwater where you reinforce negative perceptions of your opponents while conducting a poll.

"First phone attack

Straight-talking Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean is testing his attack message in Iowa. Political operatives say Dean's phone polling is probing for weaknesses in support for Sens. John Edwards and John Kerry and Rep. Dick Gephardt. For rookie pol Edwards, it's about experience. For Gephardt, it's his alliance with Bush on key issues. Questions about Kerry test Iowans' reaction to his vote backing the war in Iraq."
