He really knew his stuff, and the best thing: he kept saying it was not about him but about changing the direction the country was going. When was the last time you saw a candidate not use all their time to say ME, ME, ME. He was gracious about other candidates, and when asked laid out what he was doing in the early states. If you did not see him, and want to see his ideas, you can get a DVD with a long interview and information on his positions at his website for $10.

3. Clinton "I feel you pain" -- said it was all about us. Bush, almost from.. |

...the start made a very scripted attempt to create the perception that it was all about him.
I can't remember any specific examples, but during the campaign, and the first months of his presidency, Bush said so many things where he even inappropriately tried to make it appear that everything that happened in America and the world was about him.
I'm sure that the success of facism depends on this perception -- the cult of personality, or something like that, where the nation is subservient to the personality of the leader. It means that, if America suffers, Bush can say, 'shut up. I'm trying to do something here, and if you're whining about your feelings and your pocketbook, I can't concentrate."
And I'm sure that Democracy depends on the national mood that the president serves the people, and that the president is subservient to the democratic wishes of the people, and exists merely to make life better for the majority of Americans.
