Clark leading Polls -- already?!?
Sorry about the pay link:
http://www.salon.com/news/wire/2003/09/21/clark/index.html

Clark was among the leaders of the Democratic candidates in the Newsweek Poll released Saturday, and was not far behind President Bush in a head-to-head matchup in the poll taken only days after entering the race.

Clark, with 14 percent, was grouped among the leaders, along with former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean and Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, both at 12 percent, and Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry at 10 percent.

Other candidates were in single digits.

In a matchup with Bush, 47 percent of voters backed the president and 43 percent backed Clark.

The poll of 1,001 adults was taken Thursday and Friday and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points, and 4 percentage points for registered voters.

5. One poll with a 6 pt MOE

The democratic candidates poll had a sample size
of 377 people with a MoE = 6%.

The Bush approval questions were asked of the larger group.

6. Interesting that none of those polls agree.
I know they're different samples, but even if you're generous with those margins of error. Faux new seems to lean one way and Newsweek seems to dirrectly contradict them. Maybe it's the sample. Maybe it's the order in which candidates were listed. Maybe someone's lieing.

12. Those polls get their information
From lists of their own readership.
Not from lists of voters.

So one might expect Fox to have a differnt leaning than Time

7. I don't take this poll to heart.
With only a 1,001 individuals voicing an opinion, you mean to tell me we are to consider valid, against the entire population of the United States? I find it rather tainted and hyped. He is just the new kid in class and he happens to be cute.

Clark doesn't even know where he stands on the issues. Just go to his web site and you will see that link blank. We have not yet seen Clarks substance. I prefer to make an informed choice.

If one would take a poll from the population of DU...I beleive the stats would be quite different.

11. Thats a relatively LARGE poll
AS polls go. Most of the other polls here that people use to tout one candidate or other are polling less than 500 people. In most cases between 350 and 450 people. The only polling organization I have seen during the last 9 months that uses more than that is Ipsos Cook, and they usually poll about 1500 people.

Just to see if that was the case. I gotta say though that DU does not reflect the general public very well.

we'll see how he does under the microscope. In addition, he hasn't debated yet?
