People have been asking me what 'MY' issue was in this election. That single most important issue that has guided my choice for Edwards. Every time somebody asks me, I launch into all of the reasons why I think Edwards would be the best candidate. I talk about his very specific plans for jumpstarting the economy and generating jobs. I talk about his college initiative plan and how great that would be for young people in this country. I talk about his specific plans for reworking the insurance and healthcare problems in this country and his pledge to get children insured. I talk about his foriegn policy goals and positions and how he feels that the best way to resolve some of the outstanding problems in Iraq is to immediately begin to rebuild our alliances in global community. I talk about his strength on race issues and many other things.
But I was having a hard time coming down to one issue. Well, I just found it answering another post. TRUST. I trust John Edwards. I don't have to agree with him 100% of the time, but I feel that I can trust that where I DO agree with him, he is representing himself accurately. I have a hard time trusting some of the other candidates because I can look back over the last couple of years and see where they have had pretty diverse opinions on the same subject or on many subjects. I mean, opinions that would appear to completely contradict each other. It makes me think that they want to be President. Period. That they are saying what they are saying now because they think that's what they need to get into the White House.
People, we have that right now. And yes, I know they are Republicans, but is a Democratic opportunist that much better?
So, that is my issue. I need to be able to trust the person I am voting for.

And now, the question all of us have to be able to answer: If your preferred candidate doesn't get the nomination, will you get over it and support the nominee?

I will do what it takes to get Bush out of office. If that means voting for a Democratic candidate that turns my stomach, I'll do it. I would prefer to vote for the person that I think will do the best job for the country, but if I have to vote for someone that happens to have mass appeal based on their media hype, I will.

I trust Edwards as well. He's not the most experienced of the candidates, but he does have a gift for inspiring that trust in people. I'd be proud to see him as our candidate (or at number 2 in the ticket).

5. For me, it's middle class opportunity. The last 20 years of US history |
|
to me have been, essentially, the accelartion of the placement of the yolk of quasi-slavery on the middle class. The Republiicans have legislated a world in which they take a huge chunk of the wealth created by the labor of the middle class and transferr that wealth to the already wealthy. The ONLY thing that's going to save America is if we address this huge problem which is draining America of all its potential.
Edwards is the only candidate who speaks directly to this issue. Not only that, of all the canidates, including Kucinich and Sharpton, he is the living symbol of that philosophy of government and society.
That combination of policy concerns plus symbolism is simply too powerful to ignore. Edwards even makes Clinton look like a NE privileged elite (with his Georgetown, Oxford and Yale degress, and his extensive network of NY-DC power corridor friendships even when he was a Governor) by compariison.

And was leaning towards Clark, because after all of his time in Europe, he should have that metric system down pat. But then I considered the importance of standardizing the use of Miracle Whip vs. mayonnaise in salad dressing products, I realized that I had to go with a southerner. Plus, I would not trust Clark as far as I could throw him and Edwards looks like the real thing...an honest guy who truly wants to help out this country and has re-dedicated his life to that goal.

I agree it is the most important thing when choosing a candidate.
I would have no problem enthusiastically supporting Edwards.
