Dean's Bat: Swelling Faster
The Democratic Candidates Debate seems to have resulted in a surge in Dean's online fundraising. The last hour (7 PM to 8 PM Eastern Time) had over $47,000 in contributions.

Granted, that doesn't match the $300,000 in 20 minutes that Dick Cheney can raise from fat cats. But it's so nice to know that a genuine Democrat can get in the game and represent the little guy.

The $5 million goal will be very tough. (Dean will have to hit a little over $30,000 every hour, day and night, until the end of the quarter to make it.) It's already a great quarter, but there's an ambitious goal still to be met.

I'm fascinated looking at the hourly bat updates. It's a whole lot of fun. And I like looking for my digits in that number. :-)

3. Found this Great Line Re: Dean's Campaign
"The political revolution will no longer be televised."

The Internet is coming of age in politics. It's like 1960 and Kennedy-Nixon.

9. Like other Dean campaign slogans, that "great line" is stolen.

I know you Deanies don't care but don't understand why you don't care.

11. Actually, Not an Official Slogan By Any Means
And, yes, of course I know it's not new -- although its application to this particular medium may be.

Found it at DeanDefense.org, by the way.

2. they're a lot closer to $5 million than you'd think
it's not just online donations that are counted… it's all funds raised during the period Sept 21-Sept 30, online & offline.

snail mailed donations have also not yet been added to the tally.

the coordinated house parties & world record-setting conferenence call are also sure to generate tons of donations.

7. Fingers Crossed
This is still going to be very tough. I had to gasp when Trippi set up five bats like that.

In other news, it looks like the 450,000 registered Deaniacs goal will be smashed for the end of quarter. Only 22,469 to go to make that total, as of a few hours ago. I see that happening.

In still other news, Pilots for Dean has some updates to the Bush TFR and ATC privatization stories. My thanks to the DeanSpace team for creating some wonderful semi-instant software to create nice grassroots web sites.

8. Good Point
I've been invited to several different fundraisers, from breakfast till late at night, that are between $100 and $500 each. I'm going to one of them (the more expensive "VIP event" at Union Station), and I'm guessing he'll easily raise $500K-$1 million on just that one day via personal appearances.

If my wife ever figures out how much I've donated, she may take a bat to me...but it'll be worth it!

12. Yep. The House Party $$$ will send it over the top.
Little doubt.

It also looks like the goal of 450,000 website members will be met.

I was probably more staggered by that goal than the 5 bats, since we started the month with 347,000? I think? Something like that.

34. The msnbc embed's report
had Trippi saying there are bags of checks on the wall of HQ- so many that they are concerned about being able to report it all by the deadline.

I think that a chunk of that is relevant to the online drive because I know the last time, I sent a check in response as soon as the bat went up.

36. Almost $2 million!
In just a week...well, I know Bush takes only two or three corporate dinners to raise this much, but close to 28,000 contributors are still naive enough, American enough to think they have a say in this country.

Go Dean!

I read a story the other day about their offices overflowing with mail-in donations. They're afraid they won't be able to open them all before the end of the quarter to get an accurate count! This is pretty damn increadible!
