Senator John Kerry Calls for Rumsfeld's Resignation

September  25,  2003
AP

New York -

Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld defended the pace of Iraq's reconstruction Thursday, saying it is going faster in some cases than rebuilding in Germany and Japan after World War II.

"We are on track," he told about 500 people attending the Dwight D. Eisenhower National Security Conference, an annual gathering of national security, foreign affairs and military experts.

Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry said on television Thursday night that Rumsfeld should resign over Iraq. In answer to a question from CNN's Paula Zahn, the Massachusetts senator accused Rumsfeld of rushing to war without proper planning. "Our military is weaker today," Kerry said. "They're overextended."

7. It is good that Kerry's calling on Rummy to resign by name, but
Dean did say a couple months ago:

"What is now clear is that there are those in this administration that misled the President, misled the nation, and misled the world in making the case for the war in Iraq.

"They know who they are. And they should resign today."

This isn't to detract from Kerry (I'm glad to hear him say this and go specifically after Rummy), but, in response to your post, I just wanted to point this out. Dean should've included "the President" as among those who should resign as well, IMO.

I hope other candidates have issued similar statements, or will do so soon.

8. Thats a necessary call for sure.....

but in the long run...Rummy is such a screw-up it does us good to keep him around. Having him to target and indentify the horrors of this administration is a necessary evil.

I prefer the fix to be a direct result of the new, Democratic President!

9. Rummy Resign, Rove Under Investigation
Voted against Ashcroft and Norton. There's so much left to do...Cheney, Wolfowitz, Perle, Rice, and basically everyone in the administration that Bush didn't already make resign on his own.

Kerry's got his work cut out for him. Worse comes to worse, he can just boot them all out in January of 2005!

10. Thanks for the reminder about Kerry getting Rove investigated.
That was a good one. I would love to hear Rove grilled once they get him under oath.
