Appeal from Dennis Kucinich
(I've been away from this Board for several hours and I don't know if the below email is a 'dupe').

Date: Fri, 26 Sep 2003 11:57:00 -0700
Subject: A Personal Appeal (please forward)
From: "Dennis J. Kucinich" <info@kucinich.us>

Dear Friend,

I'm going to be blunt. My presidential campaign needs your
help more than ever. There are only a few days left in this
fundraising quarter (ending Sept. 30) and I need your support.

If you saw last night's nationally-televised debate, you know
that I am speaking out for you...and for your issues.

I spoke out for bringing the troops home from Iraq, and against
the President's request for $87 billion more. I was alone in
discussing how the Iraq occupation hurts our economy.

I was alone in advocating a withdrawal from NAFTA and the WTO
in favor of bilateral trade pacts that protect workers' rights
and the environment.

I spoke clearly about taking our healthcare system out of the
hands of the insurance and pharmaceutical companies -- and
establishing nonprofit national health insurance, Enhanced
Medicare for All. I alone called for returning the Social
Security retirement age to 65.

Our wealthy nation can afford healthcare and retirement security.
But we have to rescind the tax breaks for the wealthy, and as I
pointed out in last night's debate, the wealthiest 1% in our
country will get a majority of the Bush tax cut.

To keep bringing these issues to the American people our campaign
needs an infusion of funds. Please donate at
https://www.kucinich.us/contribute.php Your contribution today
will be doubled through federal matching funds arriving in a
few months.

I know many of you have donated as much as you can, and I thank
you. But please reach out to three other people who share our
values -- by forwarding this email to them.

If you watched last night's debate, you saw me call for a 15%
cut in Pentagon spending and an end to tax breaks for the wealthy
in order to fund childcare and education and job creation. I
spoke of my efforts to end the death penalty and to establish
a cabinet-level Department of Peace.

These issues reflect our unique and progressive grassroots
campaign that you have helped build. To expand our insurgent
campaign, please donate:https://www.kucinich.us/contribute.php

Sincerely,

Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich

1. I've given $107 this quarter
and bought some apparel, a mug and a button as well.

Sadly that is all I can afford at this time.

2. kick for America's heart:
Yesterday morning MSNBC was interviewing a commentator giving "Thumbs Up" "Thumbs Down" to each of the candidates in the debate yesterday.

When he got to Dennis Kucinich he said, "America is Gripped With Kucinich Fever."

Let's keep him in the race.

If you're tapped out this month, you can put it on the drastic plastic and pay for it next month...and it still shows up in DK's totals THIS quarter.

P.S. I ALWAYS pay my bills monthly. No use in them having an extra 14%!!

His campaign is definitely EXPANDING!!

4. I wish I was working
I make pretty good money, but I've been laid off since the last day in January. And I've still managed to send DK $100. That's like a first for me, but I believe in what he says.

9. He isn't going to run out of money because
we aren't going to let him.

The cross country walk will be kicking off soon, and I suspet we'll see his finance numbers go up, and his polling numbers with it.

16. Well I had buttons
but I have given all but one away. Not too many know him around here and I am trying my hardest to change that. With the farming community hurting like it is I am hoping to get a few rancher/farmers that I know to back him. I was at a party last night with several of the hard hitter democrats in my state and one of them saw my button and told me she could never vote for him because he is anti choice. I educated her about his stance being pro choice and was totally stunned that our party members here don't even know what he stands for. She may be a convert as of last night. I am waiting to see if I hear from her.

15. I mailed my full pledge
from our "Stop Smoking for Dennis" campaign. We couldn't afford to give much to the campaign so we decided to quit smoking in order to send that money to Dennis' campaign. Folks on the national Kucinich volunteer board are also pledging money to the campaign on behalf of our efforts to become smoke-free for Dennis.

The pledge period goes from September 18th to December 19th. If we don't smoke at all, folks are matching our pledge amount of $50 per week. If we smoke at all, folks are matching 1/2 of the amount. Those that can't afford that much are pledging what they can and throwing a dollar or so a day into a jar towards the campaign.

So far Bill, my husband, has gone from 2 packs per day to totally smoke-free and I have reduced my smoking from 30-40 a day to just a couple each day...none so far this weekend!

18. I know our "Peace Day" house parties
brought in quite a chunk of change. In an area with 30% unemployment (and rising), that's a big deal.A dollar would buy some pinto beans, or some rice or almost a can of soup.

19. I think that's the problem we're seeing
Like Lula in Brasil and Chavez in Venezuela, the people to whom Dennis appeals most have very little money -- those who are being milked to exhaustion by the ruling class.
