Poll: Kerry bests Dean among registered voters
Edited on Sat Sep-27-03 08:13 PM by DJcairo
I think the following is as clear as any poll we've seen in stating that Kerry clearly would be stronger going into the general election. If for no other reason, Kerry has more appeal across party lines. Hence, Kerry does better among all registered voters than Dean does. Of course, Clark still reins supreme.

Registered voters are split -- 46 percent yes, 47 percent no -- on whether they'd like to see President George W. Bush re-elected to another term, according to the latest Newsweek Poll. In a test match-up against President Bush, 43 percent of registered voters say they'd vote for retired Gen. Wesley Clark or lean toward voting for Clark, compared to 49 percent who'd vote for Bush or lean toward Bush. By comparison, Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry trails Bush by 50 percent v. 42 percent of registered voters, former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean trails Bush by 52 percent v. 38 percent and Missouri Rep. Dick Gephardt trails Bush by 53 percent v. 39 percent, the poll shows.

1. What are you talking about?
"Clark leads all Democratic contenders who are currently in the race with 16 percent of the vote among registered Democrats and Democratic leaners, the poll shows. He's followed by Dean with 12 percent of the vote and Kerry and Gephardt follow with both getting 10 percent of the vote."

Looks like Kerry is in a distant 3rd/4th to me, and no doubt, has a much higher name ID than does Dean.

2. What, are you serious?
Dean has much higher name ID. He was the media's little babie until Clark entered the race.

4. Dean was not the media's "babie"

at least not until he raised $500,000 in a few days earlier this year (that seems to be what matters to the fifth estate). That's where the higher name ID comes from.

Up until late this summer, most of the mainstream media were dismissing (and dissing) Dean.

5. 20 years in the Senate. 11 years as Vermont's Governor.

You have to be shitting me! There is no way on this planet Earth that Dean has a higher name recognition than Kerry.

C'mon, get a hold of yourself!

7. Ask most people in their own state to name their senators
and I bet you'd find they couldn't. The fact is, all the media attention lavished on Dean this quarter has resulted in most Americans, even if they don't follow the campaign, having heard of his name.

6. Anybody who reads Time should know who Dean is by now
I even saw a Dean ad running on my TV, and I live in Canada. Even though Kerry's served a long time as senator, I doubt many people watch C-SPAN that much.
