Russ Feingold for VP?
The midwest has a motherlode of great Dem senators. Russ is right at the top. Here are some thoughts he shared at the "Fighting Bob" fest in Baraboo a few weeks ago. He is a progressive, and an optimist. I like that!

I would have preferred Wellstone/Feingold or Feingold/Wellstone. Kucinich's past abortion record and his support of the flag burning amendment kind of worry me.

9. I disagree look Kucinich was consistent(anti death penalty) while pro life
Its consistent and the path of many strict Catholic democrats, and flag burning, I dont like this but I prefer that he voted against the patriot act. Its not that big of an issue for me. Also did you know that Clinton and Gore once opposed abortion? I wouldnt worry about that honestly, I respect your concerns but I think you shouldnt worry about that with some of other things to worry about.
Besides Wellstone and Feingold together as a ticket wouldnt make much sense, they are or were both midwestern senators. Great guys though. I think youre wrong about DK but I do agree with you about those two, two great guys. Feingold I really do like.

21. It may be consistent, John,
but it's disrepsectful of women. Just because he is consistent in opposing both abortion and the death penalty doesn't make me happy. I myself am pro-choice and pro-death penalty(in principle), so I'm consistent too.

24. Yes
but he wasnt a 100% anti choice either, his record isnt the best in that I admit. I dont think I can ignore the good he promotes and judge him because of his once view on abortion, I used to that. I was wrong.

5. I'd love to see my Senator on the ticket
But, if he quit the Senate, his seat would definitely go to a rethug--he's got one gunning for him right now.

6. No
I want him back in Wisconsin getting reelected to another term to a safe Senate seat. We can't afford to throw another Senate seat into the vast nether world of tossup-land.

8. I prefer Landrieu
She won't have to campaign for her seat in 04, and she is a moderate from the south.

18. no
The problem with Landrieu is that she supports oil drilling in ANWR. This could create problems with groups like the Sierra Club. I think that someone like Max Cleland of Bill Nelson (Florida) would make stronger VP choices. Also, I'd prefer to maybe see Feingold run for president in the future.

Feingold would actually have more power as a third-term Senator than as a Vice President.

15. I would also like to see Dick Durbin (D-IL)
Edited on Sun Sep-28-03 07:26 AM by Padraig18
Sen. Durbin voted again the IWR, has rock-solid, 'social' liberal credentials while being fiscally moderate/responsible. He was re-elected overwhelmingly last year, has never been touched by even a BREATH of scandal; if he were selected as VP then elected, our DEMOCRATIC governor would get to appoint his successor. He is also a frequent spokesperson for the Democratic party on TV, and represents a state that can deliver 21 DEMOCRATIC electoral votes (as it has in the last 3 presidential elections). :)

27. not neccesarily
it'd be a pure toss up. Remember he's up for reelection in 2004. And even if he ran for both and won both like Lieberman, the Dem governor wouldn't get to pick his replacement in Wisconsin, the state law calls for a special election, in which case it'd be a pure toss up.

25. She is an extraordinarily articulate and wonderful choice
However, she's 71, and may not want to jump back into elective politics. However, she'd be a terrific cabinet choice...

26. He would have been the perfect choice for 2000
He had all the plusses of Lieberman (Jewish, good reputation) aswell as progressive credentials Gore needed to win over Greens. Plus, McCain-followers would have voted for Gore because Feingold was McCain's partner in the ending soft moey quest. Gore would've won over additional swing voters with Feingold, aswell as hard liberals he needed. And everything he gained from Joe (high Jewish turnout, distinguishing himself from Bill) would have been accomplished.
In 2004, I think he'd be a great pick, but he up for re-election, so it could get sticky.

29. He would've been perfect in 2000
A senator who'd been elected twice, he would've carried Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, and Illinois easily (I know we won all of them, but with Feingold on the ticket, we wouldn't have had to spend so much time on them. The only problem would've been that then-Gov. Tommy Thompson would've selected Feingold's replacement, though we could've defeated the appointee in 2002.

30. Definitely!
Russ would make a great VP, and since he'll only be 51 next November, he could serve two terms as VP and win the Presidency in 2012 at the age of 59. He could then retire in 2021 at the age of 67.
