1. I am surprized that Ford is with Kerry...
He is very centrist, even conservative, for a DEM--a classic DLC-DINO type who opposed Pelosi in the house as "too liberal."

One more reason to switch to Dean.

John--what happened?

9. You're missing the BIG PICTURE.
Edited on Mon Sep-29-03 04:28 PM by blm
Ford is very close with Gore. Maybe Gore urged Kerry to bring Ford on in a larger capacity. heh?

As far as Dean goes, he's the most DLC centrist of ALL the candidates. Are you disregarding his 11 year record on the compromising centrist wing of the DLC for his 9 month old conversion to populism?

I sure don't buy it.

16. Clark, Dean, Kerry: What does it matter?
The nominee is either going to be:

1. A member of the DLC

2. A retired general woh favors DLC policies and is supported by many DLCers

3. A former governor whose governed like DLCer.

17. Ford is no DINO
he is results-oriented. He is willing to stray from ideology if he thinks it might produce results. He does not toe the CBC line or the DLC line...he is very independent minded, and he is respected on both sides of the aisle as someone who is reasonable and can help get things done by building coalitions and working out compromises. He can be great at bashing the Republicans, and he fights hard for the causes he cares about, but he comes across as someone who really cares about getting something accomplished rather than preaching about why the Republicans are evil. I really respect Harold Ford, and I would not be surprised if 20-30 years from now he becomes our country's first black president.

Make this a Summer to Remember.

18. Wow, Ford's that good, huh?
And your testimony is all the more credible because you're a Dean supporter, with no reason other than the drive for spreading truth to say something good about a big Kerry endorsement. Thanks.

19. I agree about Ford.
Told my wife yesterday, Ford was on Tweety show. "Ford will be President someday".

20. if ford was old enough
ford isn't old enough for 2004. i think he misses by 1 year. but if he was, i think he would be a top consideration for any candidate for vice president. but i'm hoping he runs for senate. he has years ahead of him to run for president after that.

4. I hope so...he has a long way to go to get in my graces again...
After his (Ford's) whoring appearances on Imus last year to promote his RW attack on Pelosi.

5. Ford is awesome he called Novak on the mat and hit back hard
at the Repuke rep. ooops I forgot. All you Dean freaks want to do is divide the Dems. Half of you don't even know the differnece between the Dlc and the DNC. Get it straight. This thread is not about the merits of Harold Ford Jr. it is about him doing well on Crossfire.

6. Good luck getting that point across...
I once made the mistake of saying something good about Ford and was immediately gang-tackled by a dozen or more of those same people who oppose anything to the right of Kucinich.

7. Ford is a conservative Dem!!!!
That definetly doesn't make him a repuke, or even close to one. I'm not happy with his attack on Pelosi either, but that's politics and he was playing the game.

He is a democrat and most often votes with democrats so he need not be bashed everytime he is mentioned. Especially when he is actually doing what most of us agree with (ie. bashing novak and the right).

8. Ford, good southern Democrat
There is a south, there are conservative Democrats, whether we like it or not. I am proud to have Ford on the Kerry team, he's generally been a good spokesperson for Democrats. He's going to do great things for this campaign, we've just gotten started!

10. Don't Fraternize With The Centrists!!!
2002 Composite Liberal Score's calculations, Senator Kerry voted more liberal on economic, defense and foreign policy issues than 87 percent of the Senators.

2002 Composite Liberal Score's calculations, Senator Kennedy voted more liberal on economic, defense and foreign policy issues than 89 percent of the Senators.

Plus the fact that Kerry has NEVER, EVER EVER accepted a PAC contribution in ANY of his Senate races - only the THIRD person in Congressional history to forego PAC money.

Yet somehow, people that support a fiery CENTRIST accuse Kerry of being a sell-out.

I suppose being able to build bridges instead of blowing them up is something to be sneered at. After all, why reach out to centrist members of your own Party? That's ridiculous.

13. "If Schwarzenegger Is A Legitimate Candidate..."
Then Clark certainly is." This is almost exactly what he said on Crossfire. Not exactly the highest of praise in my book.

14. There is a more personal angle too
Harold Ford and Teresa Heinz's son (Andre) went to school at St. Alban's together. The Family's have been close for many years.
