Statement by Governor Howard Dean on the Economy and the Situation in Iraq

Nov. 3, 2003

DES MOINES--Democratic presidential candidate Governor Howard Dean, M.D., issued the following statement today:

"President Bush continues to try to put positive spin on the economy and the situation in Iraq, but the reality just doesn’t support his rhetoric. On the economy, the Bush Administration has compiled the worst economic record since the Great Depression, and one quarter of growth is not going to make up for 2 1⁄2 years of Enron Economics. Since President Bush moved into the White House, 3.2 million Americans have lost their jobs, and we have yet to see any sign that this time of hardship for American workers is ending. Real economic growth can only be measured with jobs.

"On Iraq, in the face of mounting American casualties and the bloodiest day since President Bush declared an end to the war, this President continues to claim that we are on the right track. This Administration’s arrogant foreign policy has made it almost impossible to bring in our allies and internationalize the force. Only by doing so will we be able to bring our troops home safely.

"It seems only a small group of people have benefited from President Bush’s economic and Iraq policies – his campaign contributors, a wealthy elite who have received unfair tax cuts and this Administration’s large corporate friends who have received billions in no-bid contracts.

"The nation deserves better. The American people must change Washington."

I like this near constant communication from Dean. He's acting like a President.

If we don't get Bush out those kids will never get home.

5. Thanks Larkspur. Until Americans forcefully condemn the murderous
greedy Bush regime there will be no change. Bush-like, Bush-lite please go to the end of the line. The nation's viability is at stake. Thank you Howard Dean. Thank you.

6. Yup!
Hammer it, and don't let it go.

The White House has the most powerful propaganda machine in the world, and the only thing that can possibly counter it is the constant hammering from the opposition.

Keep the volume up, keep the message out there, and slowly but surely the message will sink in with the people and the press has to pick it up.

You can't run a free and democratic country on lies forever.
