http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/bush_new_york_poll

The Quinnipiac University Polling Institute found the Republican president's approval rating at 44 percent, up slightly from 42 percent in a similar poll released early last month.

Those surveyed favored former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean (news - web sites) over Bush, 48-44 percent; Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman (news - web sites) over the president, 49-43 percent; Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites), 50-42 percent; Missouri Rep. Dick Gephardt (news - web sites), 49-43 percent; and Wesley Clark (news - web sites) 47-43 percent.

1. Looks like all Dems beat Bush
It doesn't matter the percentage, just as long as the Dems have more.

3. It matters greatly with Black Box voting giving Bush an added percentage.
The Dem nominee will have to TROUNCE Bush thoroughly.

4. A pity we can't elect them all to be our President
We will need 9 outstanding leaders to fix the mess Junior and the adults have made of this country.

5. Personally, I think Kerry, Gore and Clinton could do it.
And I think Gary Hart will be in there, too. I think those are 4 of the most powerful minds in international affairs and government.

7. We will not win

unless we nominate a candidate that excites people and gets people who otherwise would not vote to the polls.

The only candidates who do that are Dean and Clark (as well as Kucinich and Sharpton, to a somewhat lesser degree).

I just can't see anyone getting excited about fighting for Kerry, Gep, Lieberman or Edwards. Maybe Edwards. But not the others. I think we will surely get crushed if we nominate a "been there done that" Democrat. This is why I got excited about this race in the first place, because I saw the potential for us to put up a Dem who wasn't going to be labeled as just another Washington Democrat.

ps: This is not to say that I don't think Kerry would make an excellent president, he would certainly. Even Gep or Lieberman would be a HUGE improvement. I just don't think they can excite any great amounts of people to get to the polls.

8. The media makes Dean sound exciting for liberals
and Democrats. His actual governance was more compromising and centrist. When is the media going to tell the truth?

The teflon they have created for Dean these many months, disappears as soon as they need it for Bush in the general election. THEN you'll hear all the lies and inconsistencies of Dean that he has gotten away with in the primary, AMPLIFIED for the general election.

The whole Dem party will suffer.

9. Agreed....we should assume that the Republican Corporate Media
Edited on Sat Nov-08-03 12:34 PM by Old and In the Way
machine is no friend of any Democrats. They know they are indictable co-conspirators in foisting this illegitimate regime on us. They will begin the character assassination of any of our nominated candidates starting 2 minutes after the selection.

I hope every candidates closet is vetted and we understand what, if any, baggage lies unopened. Whatever candidate that appears to be the media darling today might be the one that needs the most scrutiny now.

We cannot afford another Thomas Eagleton type fiasco in this election...

10. Thanks for understanding the BIG picture.
The Dem party is being set up for the fall of its very existence, just as the GOP has intended for decades.

11. and your solution to this is....?
Dean is re-energizing people like me, Dems who stayed away because there was no one who seemed to speak for us.

But if you think this is just a vast plot to bring down the Dems, please tell us what the answer is. Nominate Kerry?

12. this is interesting
new york state is very divided normally. upstate ny hates us here in nyc; our needs and interests are polar opposites... upstate hates the city and thinks we get too much money and attention, and that more rural and conservative issues the north cares about take a backseat to nyc. that kerry receives the highest margin over dudududubya from the urban/rural peeps in ny state points to a broad appeal that could translate to the rest of the country.
