Howard Dean Noses Ahead
Howard Dean did something amazing this week. The tough, abrasive politician did a 180 and apologized for causing pain. He’s starting to sound as wimpy as those losing liberal Democrats he’s often associated with.

But what did he get in return? The support of two powerful labor unions; likely permission from his troops to eschew a good government icon; public financing to spend through the roof and the shock and awe of the chattering class wondering “Is it going to be over before it begins?”

Dean’s wild ride started last Friday when he let John Kerry’s attacks on gun control rattle him. In an effort to support low income white voters in the South, Dean said in an interview with the Des Moines Register that he wanted to be "for guys with Confederate flags in their pickup trucks."

2. Not his "teflon coat", but how he inspires people.
Sometimes, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. That's the Dean campaign. His supporters are behind him because of what he represents. They support him as a candidate, but they also support him as an ideal. Speaking only for myself, I support Dean because I believe he has the ability to bring a completely new emphasis to the Presidency - one of cooperative decision-making and inclusiveness.

I know he's not everybody's cup of tea. His supporters, however, are fiercely loyal because he speaks to issues that matter to them. That's why I believe he's not only the best choice for the Dem candidate, bur he's also the best choice to beat Bush.

4. It's the teflon coat that the corporate media LETS Dean have - for now.
Then in the general, the teflon will be stripped away and all the scrutiny of Dean's real record, the fact that he governed COMPLETELY differently than his populist rhetoric, and all the gaffes, lies and inconsistencies will be on FULL display in ads and on every news show.
