Senator Al Franken?
’08: No Joke

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s victory is prompting talk that a new wave of celebs will enter politics, among them Dennis Miller, George Clooney—and now Al Franken.

<snip>

He’s “intrigued” by the idea of taking on Wellstone’s successor, Republican Norm Coleman. “Republicans always say, ‘How dare Susan Sarandon and Martin Sheen get involved in politics!’ ” Franken tells NEWSWEEK. “Then Arnold showed up and it was ‘Oooh! Arnold’s running! Oooh! The Terminator!’ Well, ‘F’ you!”

1. Many Minnesotans
would appreciate Franken in Wellstone's seat, I think. From what I've heard, the Repug who is in there now is not popular at all.

7. The Repug who is there makes Bush* look like a rocket scientist
Norm Coleman is an opportunist, for sale to the highest bidder, and a turncoat. Used to be a Dem, endorsed and introduced Wellstone and Clinton in 1996 at various Dem functions and then switched parties. Business rules with Norm, people don't matter. Said after a few months on the job that he was a 99% improvement over Wellstone then changed it to 99% improvement at working with Bush* when he got hammered by press and calls from his public. Hasn't done diddley for Minnesota in the year gone, but has been all over the country stumping for Bush* and Cheney. Changed his stance on Cuba - we shouldn't do business there. Before election he said we should - as Minn farmers would like to see that market open.

I would, as a resident of Minnesota, vote for Franken in a heartbeat. Hell, I would campaign for Franken, as I will for whomever runs against little Normie. Oh, Norm also claims to love Bob Dylan - proving what an idiot he is - Dylan's lyrics should drive him to suicide for all the hypocrisy he has committed.

11. I'd like it if one of Wellsone's sons ran in 2008
I'd like it if one of Wellsone's sons ran in 2008. If neither of them is interested, then maybe Al Franken should be considered.

Neither of Wellstone's sons has said he wants to run so far.

13. Right you are
Many would love to see it. However, don't know that any of them want to do that to their already established lives. They are nicely honoring the legacies of their parents and sister. Check out www.wellstone.org - I understand they have a big hand in the activities listed on the page.
