Two Calif. Democrats urge Feinstein to run for governor
Gov. Gray Davis seemed to take one step forward and another back as he continued to fight for his political life, securing a state budget that avoids angering voters with a tax increase on the same day a coalition of Democrats that had united in opposition to his recall began to show signs of cracking.

The fissures in the unilateral party support became evident Tuesday when two California congressional Democrats called on Sen. Dianne Feinstein to place her name on the recall ballot. Until now, Democrats have been united in saying they won't run to replace Davis if he is ousted by the Republican-backed recall.

"It is no secret that Gov. Davis is in trouble, and I seriously doubt that he can survive the recall effort," Rep. Cal Dooley, a moderate from Hartford, said in a statement issued Tuesday. He suggested that Feinstein, widely touted as the state's most popular Democrat, put her name on the ballot as a candidate to replace Davis if the recall succeeds.

Rep. Loretta Sanchez, a liberal from Garden Grove, agreed.

1. More are speaking out.
I don't think Dianne will change her mind for two reasons that hit home to her:

1. She is against the recall prosess. A large part is probably the failed recall against her as SF mayor.

2. IF she were elected, this would be the second time she would be taking office under stressfull events. The first being the assination of George Moscone in San Francisco.

As much as I want her to run and stop the GOP, I don't think her heart is in it.

2. I don't expect her to change her mind either.
Besides I wouldn't vote for her. She's more conservative than Davis.

3. Popularity
Is that why she is always more popular than Boxer?

4. Feinstein wrong choice anyway...
This is not a general election. Feinstein belongs in the Senate. No "replacement" candidate is necessary. Polls will show that we can and will beat this outright.
