New Lieberman Ad Takes Swipes at Dean |
|
Democratic presidential candidate Joe Lieberman, trailing his major rivals in New Hampshire, takes a few soft swipes at front-runner Howard Dean in a new television ad that began airing Friday.
``I don't think it's right to have raised a divisive symbol like the confederate flag. Or to give up on principles like limiting the amount of money in campaigns,'' Lieberman says in the commercial
He doesn't name Dean, but the subject is clear. The former Vermont governor recently came under fire for saying he wanted to be the candidate of Southern whites who drive pickup trucks with the Confederate flag. Dean also rejected public financing and the accompanying spending limits during the primary
<snip>
Lieberman is focusing his efforts -- and his money -- on New Hampshire and other early voting states in place of Iowa, which he abandoned last month.
A recent poll showed Dean with a 14-point lead over John Kerry, while Lieberman was bunched with John Edwards and Wesley Clark, who each had 4 percent in the survey of likely primary voters. Dick Gephardt had 3 percent. http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/national/AP-Lieberman-Ads.html

...while a ton of people here (along with many in the talking head circuit) have all but decided the election in dean's favor months before the first vote is even cast, lieberman leads in many (important) individual states and nationally, while kerry consistantly does the best against bush. that there are no lieberman supporters here (that i have seen) doesn't mean they don't exist; they just aren't online. perspective is skewed a tad, to put it mildly. "self-imposed oblivion" isn't exactly in the cards for Teh Lieb...
i kind of wish he'd go away, but he is keeping many likely and past voters in play, which is a good thing.

waste my time or my minimal, hunt and peck typing skills on a reply to a Lieberman post, but alas, here it goes. Lieberman is a LOSER, and he becomes the WORST KIND of LOSER when he attacks those in his own party on a personal level, because in doing so he hurts the very party he is supposed to be fostering and advancing it's principles. He is a DANGEROUS LOSER too, he sees his party going another direction, so instead of embracing a new path for it's sucess, he would prefer to divide and conquer it. Gee, holy Joe, if you get the nom, since you like John McCain as your Defense Secretary, maybe Zell Miller could be your running mate.

What are you talking about? He didn't say Dean has bad breath or anything like that. Where's the attack 'on a personal level' you are talking about?

``I don't think it's right to have raised a divisive symbol like the confederate flag. Or to give up on principles like limiting the amount of money in campaigns,'' Lieberman says in the commercial.
to which he should in all honesty add, ``But I do think it's fine and dandy to waste unlimited amounts of money on invading countries whenever Georgie boy says we need to, even if they pose no threat to us, especially when they happen to have a lot of oil.''

8. Now let's all complain about how |
|
the media focuses on Dean, while the "real statesmen" are ignored. How can the media not focus on Dean, when that's all his opponents seem to be able to do?

9. All this whining about 'the media is focusing on Dean'... |
|
Edited on Fri Nov-14-03 01:41 PM by Padraig18
Well, folks, could it be because he's polling in 1st or 2nd place in the 1st 3 contests--- DC, IA and NH? Could it be because he's raised more $$$ than any Democrat in history has raised at this point in the pre-primary season? Could it be because the rest of the candidates can't stop yammering about him? Could it be because his campaign is very media-savvy, and treats the press corps well?
Do you think it might even remotely be connected to any of those things?
