Governor Dean on Prescription Drug Bill

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MANCHESTER--Democratic presidential candidate Governor Howard Dean, M.D., issued the following statement today:

"The Republican Medicare drug bill is bad medicine for America's seniors. The Republicans have consistently had the corporate interests of the drug industry and HMOs at heart, not the best interests of older Americans.

"In seeking to drive seniors out of traditional Medicare into heavily subsidized private drug HMOs, Republicans are gutting Medicare's guarantee of universal, affordable health care. Under this plan, seniors could end up paying more out of pocket than they receive in benefits, and reitrees could end up losing valuable drug benefits that they worked hard to earn.

"This is politics as usual. Congress should abandon reckless schemes to privatize Medicare and pass a genuine, generous and universal Medicare drug benefit."

1. drug bill
I am afraid Dems will cave on this. I hope not. Repubs always want to "reform" something. If a Dem takes the presidency will we be able to "unreform" the bill?
