Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee expected to endorse Dean today
Schein also notes Dean’s inroads among some important corners of the party coalition with endorsements yesterday from Reps. Elijah Cummings, chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, David Wu, and centrist Democrat Jim Moran. Schein says Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee is expected to endorse Dean today in Houston.

2. this would be another significant endorsment
and the Houston rally should be explosive. I love the fact that Dean is not taking Texas lightly. He has really worked Austin, and had media buy there and is now in Houston and there were a group of his campaigners who even stopped off in Crawford.

3. Again, this is why Dean will win
energizing Democrats in states that were normally written off. Suddenly minor offices that were never in contention become contentious. It is about rebuilding and reenergizing the party, not just about winning the election.

Landslide for Dean.

4. Energizing Democrats
really is what it's all about. I live in Kansas, a state in which at least a third of the registered Republicans (my personal estimate) are actually Democrats, but as R's they get to vote in primary elections, which are the ones that really matter. They try to keep the worst of the nutcases off the ballot and sometimes it works.

But recently, the last year or so, Democrats have been organizing at the grass-roots level and trying to win various offices. We have a Democratic Governor, and very nearly elected a Democratic attorney general with absolutely no name recognition at all at the beginning of his campaign. I have a D Congressman (although he is in reality a moderate Republican, the the D after his name counts for something). I'm no precinct chairperson, although my precinct is so incredibly Republican it's hard to say what I can accomplish. Although it's quite interesting to look at the voter registration lists and see just how the people I know personally are registered.

That said, I'm also a Deanie and I'm working to get him nominated and then elected, despite my almost total cynicism about next year's election.

5. It's this committed local work that's changing...
Cynicism to optimism, one voter at a time!

Congrats on the great work in Kansas! We're working on over-turning our historically Republican county as well. We have an outside chance of knocking off an incumbent Republican in Congress.

6. Superdelegates, Right?
Gee, I thought the superdelegates were supposed to rise up, en masse, lift their glasses of Chardonnay, and torpedo a Dean nomination if he arrives at the Democratic National Convention with majority support among Democratic voters.

Hmmmm... Well, I guess that GOP meme will have to be revised. :-)
