He served until 1994 when he was defeated in the March primary by Houston, Texas City Council member Sheila Jackson Lee. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee was re-elected in 1996. Congresswoman Lee now serves on the Committee on the Judiciary , Committee on Science, and the Select Committee on Homeland Security. In addition, she is currently ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee on Immigration and Claims.

14. My congressman Hinchey just endorsed Dean too and is turning over his

entire machine. Just talked to the County Chairman and fair warning to Mr. Kerry: the whole Hinchey machine is going to be mobilized for Dean in the primary and when you combine this district's Deaniacs with the Hinchey machine, plus the County Chairman's people who just devasted the Repukes in the election 2 weeks ago (going from 25-8 Republican to 17-16 Republican in the County Legislature).

We are asking Mr. Kerry to surrender now!
