Clark doesn't have the momentum and the Reps know that. And he won't win the military vote, either, which is *not* a secret to the Republicans I'm sure. There's too many army officers running around who don't trust him, and now former CJCS's like Shelton are putting him down in the press. (And if every army officer I meet tells me to watch out for him, that's good enough for me.) The full version of Kosovo isn't available to the public for me to spread but its enough to put me off.
Besides, the dude could be a Republican if he changed his bumper sticker.
I'm sticking with Lieberman, although I'm ready to throw in behind *anyone* who just breaks out...

All the officers I run into are big Clark fans. Like his smarts, leadership skills, and has proven himself throughout his meritous service to his country.
Maybe you've been talking with the Republican Officer's Corp?.

The military is apolitical, didn't you hear ;) But you should know that the officer corps usually votes Republican unfortunately. Where are those officers you're running into? There's a couple hundred army officers here alone, and plenty of other people who served with Clark in joint staffs.
Like I said, the details aren't getting released. There's a diplomatic side to it. Shelton and Schwarzkopf (both excellent leaders) hinted at it, and I've read it since I've been here. Not my place to distribute though...you'll have to call the little birdie who keeps dropping intel memos out of the department of defense!
The Navy somewhat likes him more, cause of the way he called the Yugoslav "CNO" on the phone before Kosovo and told him if he set sail we would sink everything they had, wherever it was! No problems from those guys after that.
But there are definite integrity issues that's putting the military off. Maybe the O's you know are clueless or out of it, who knows. And I still say the guy could be a Republican. He's running populist, that's all.

9. 90% of the officer corp IS Republican |

And will probably still vote that way. It's the guys in the trenches that will decide the military vote - and right now I think a candidate with the (military) credentials of a Clark or Kerry has a lot more cachet with them than the AWOL Bush and his gang of chickenhawk warmongers.

6. Shelton, Norman and the rest |

Its pretty clear that Clark isn't worried about what Larry, Moe and Shemp can come up with regarding his career.
Actually, he's more or less called them out on their innuendos but none of them seem prepared to "walk the walk" though they are more than quick enough to "talk the talk".
Clark dismissed their chattering as gossip on 60 Minutes(2) and those who listen to hear their stinging rebuttals are greeted with a deafening silence.
There may be officers who don't like Clark. There are millions of Baltic Moslems who do, though they can't vote in our election. Many of them think they would be dead if Shelton and Cohen had their way rather than Clinton and Albright and Clark.
Clark gets my vote for that, if nothing else.

5. Folks, Tune Out the GOP Totally |

The Republicans always try to meddle in the affairs of the Democratic nominating process. And vice versa. You never know whether they really want a candidate or don't. Could be forward psychology or reverse psychology.
Just ignore it all. Decide on your own.
