Kucinich in Montana
Dennis Kucinich, a representative from Ohio, was a guest speaker for the Northern Plains Research Council's annual meeting. Kucinich spoke about agricultural issues such as trade pacts and country of origin labels.

I'll edit this to provide a link to the paper when their article is up - KULR8 is not my preferred news source.

I am not the most attentive person but I believe this is the first candidate to visit Montana?

1. interesting
Not from Montana but this is neat to know. I think that his views on family farms will make him popular with the farmers.

2. Too bad Montana is so big, I would have liked to hear him speak.
Billings is like a 10 hour drive from here.

5. OK, here's a *real* news article
Presidential candidate talks to NPRC group
http://www.billingsgazette.com/index.php?id=1&display=rednews/2003/11/23/build/local/30-kucinich.inc

During a brief campaign stop in Billings Saturday, Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich blasted U.S. policies in Iraq, advocated withdrawal from NAFTA and the World Trade Organization and decried the concentration of agriculture in the hands of a few corporations.

The congressman from Cleveland, Ohio, may not be one of the front-runners in the race for the Democratic nomination, but the 250-plus people gathered at the Sheraton Hotel for the annual meeting of the Northern Plains Resource Council seemed well acquainted with his populist ideas.

Kucinich was received with a standing ovation and whoops of approval from council members. Although the nonprofit organization cannot endorse candidates, its members applauded the congressman at almost every point in his half-hour-long speech.

Here is the Northern Plains Resource Council web site: http://www.nprcmt.org/

I still am not aware of any other candidate who has visited Montana yet, not that I'm surprised since our primary is so late.

6. Great to hear the Kooch got a warm reception!
I was able to see him in Minneapolis in October. Winona Laduke spoke as well. The auditorium was packed, he got several standing ovations.

12. Dude you were there?
What a GREAT reception it was for him! It was quite amazing! We really did a great job of packing that auditorium, and getting him noticed in the local press (front page of the Mpls paper on the day of the event). If you're not on the MN email list-serv, you can sign up at www.MinnesotaforKucinich.com. We're pretty active in MN, and I'm tempted to say we have the largest presidential campaign in the state.

(PS: at the October event I was one of the guys on the stage during the program playing guitar and singing-- hence my avatar. I did one solo song in Spanish.) :D

I'm pleased to hear that Dennis gets so much applause when he makes an appearance in Montana. So much for the unelectable argument....

Can anyone name an instance of another democratic presidential candidate having been in Montana this year? Is DJK in fact the only democratic candidate to have appeared in Montana? And Hawaii?

15. no
As far as I know DK has not been to Idaho. I can't find any suggestion that he has been. Dean is smart to have gone there. Idaho is not all that far from Missoula. Folks I know in Missoula appear to be Dean supporters largely unaware of Kucinich.
