Kerry, Edwards to Participate In Debate Via Satellite
http://www.whotv.com/Global/story.asp?S=1537684&nav=2HABJISd

Des Moines, November 24th, 2003- Two of the candidates were prepared to skip the debate because of an important senate Medicare vote today in Washington, D.C..

This morning we have learned that Senators John Edwards and John Kerry will be involved in the debate via satellite.

Connecticut Senator Joseph Lieberman will also be in Washington, but he didn't plan to participate in the presidential debate. We are told he later asked to participate via satellite with Edwards and Kerry, but organizers told him no.
------------------------------------
Looks like they are making the most of it- a victory on the medicare dog is worth fighting for.

Joe wanted the same treatment and he wasn't even planning on making the effort to be there in the first place!

1. Considering the Clark Precedent
i.e. Clark being allowed late scheduling changes (from speaking engagements) before confirming debate attendance, I think Joe Lieberman ought to be allowed to participate by satellite if two other candidates are allowed.

"Didn't plan to participate" wasn't disqualifying in Clark's case. The debate organizers were extremely patient with him and didn't set arbitrary deadlines for attendance.

In other words, if you make exceptions, you have to make them for everybody, Lieberman included. Give him his satellite dish and be done with it. Otherwise we'll never hear the end of it.

2. Don't care but is he playing in Iowa?
Maybe Clark and Lieberman should not be debating in the Iowa debate. Talk among yourselves.

3. It was a different debate.

The debate you are talking about was Dec. 9th. The only reason it became a problem was that the DNC moved it. Clark fixed his schedule and he is there. Lieberman should be allowed to participate, but I don't know who he pissed off. Hopefully this will accelerate his demise.
