Local Democrats May Favor Kucinich, Dean
Good news from the Bay Area

-snip-

Representatives for Kucinich, Dean, Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, ret. Gen Wesley Clark and North Carolina Sen. John Edwards spoke about prescription drugs, poverty, the USA Patriot Act and what the candidates would do to fix the budget, among other topics.

Each volunteer was given less than two minutes to respond to each topic.

During the sample ballot poll, participants were given a sheet of paper with the names of nine Democratic candidates on it. They were asked to rank their top three choices with their most likely choice given three points and their third likely choice given one point.

Kucinich, a congressman from Ohio, and Dean, former governor of Vermont, separated themselves from the pack with 194 and 174 points, respectively. Kerry had 107 points and the rest fewer than 50.

2. Spread the word!
Kucinich is gaining strength!

Well actually, the people of San Francisco are more "people oriented" than most other areas. Considering that, though, I would have thought Kucinich would be ahead of Dean there!

Who the man? Dennis the man!

3. Not surprised about San Fran
Seeing as how the mayoral runoff is between a Green and a Dem. That shows there's pretty good support for progressives there.

6. Why doesn't Kerry use some of his clout to turn Diane Feinstein's
Vote on Medicare.

The strong support of Sens. like Feinstein do make me question Kerry's long-term liberal credentials.

11. Like Jim Jeffords? Feinstein was always a centrist

who leaned left. That's who she was when she ran, and that's who was elected. Centrists can be too iffy for my taste.

See...that's why I want someone with a REAL liberal record and who is not running differently than how they governed. How can you trust their campaign rhetoric when it doesn't match their governing style?

12. I want a leader as well...Kerry and Edwards failed to turn the tide among
Their colleagues against the Medicare bill.

13. I miss the dem party being left
:( I don't like the idea of having to be centrist. I admit it although I am young, I prefer the old democrats to the "new" democrats,.

14. No one is asking you to be centrist...
And I certainly hope you don't shift your ideals.

What I do hope people do, however, is that they build coalitions to elect the best possible government...and then continue to work to have influence on our elected leaders.

I'm quite confident a portion of my ideals are far to the left of Howard Dean, but a portion of my ideals are fairly far to the right of Dennis Kucinich. I'm an individual with all of the complexities that go with it...and I expect everyone else, including the candidates, are.

Please, John, stick with DK as long as he is in the race. If he doesn't win, however, please help with a Democratic Party coalition that can win back the presidency and hopefully the congress.

If DK wins, you can bet I'll be right there working for him even though I don't agree with him on a number of things.

Thanks though. I just don't like the memo that only centrists can win elections, sigh sorry I've had a bad day. I sure as hell wont give up my ideals, sorry. I have no plans to leave the party, it's just I dont know, I cant explain it, the party  I dont like this move to the center to win stuff. Thanks though, I am sorry if I came across as whining, I am having a bad day :(. Oh I didnt mean I had to be centrist, I meant the party.

16. No problem...
We all have bad days...and days when the idealism is put to the test.

Howard Dean's campaign bringing people together is what keeps me there...and the bringing people together is the key part of my idealism. Days when that isn't going so well, I get frustrated, too.

17. Thanks for understanding
There's a quote that really brings a smile to my face though, Some men look at the way things are and ask why others think of things that never were and say why not. RFK said that and he was paraphrasing what Shaw said, I ask that. Thanks though, I had a rough day but work seemed to make me feel better.

5. This is good for Dean and Kucinich, but in terms of actual impact...
This is about as important as the SC online poll for Dean reported earlier and the MO bar-b-q for Kerry.
