My local Clear Channel Station slammed Rush and the right tonight.
WWVA, out of Wheeling, WV. I know that sounds like a rinky-dink outfit, but it puts out 50,000 watts or whatever. It's heard in something like sixteen states.

Anyway (paraphrasing here), one of the local personalities named Burt said that he reads lefty magazines and righty magazines and foreign news sources because if you don't, you don't get the whole picture. Called the Washington Times a "far right-wing paper," but he reads it anyway, just to see what they're saying." Anyone who only listens to Rush and watches Fox News is ill-informed, says Burt. Those people only hear what the right wing wants them you hear. They shouldn't even be allowed to discuss politics, because they don't know what they're talking about, Burt continues. (I would call Burt a moderate.)

Then the other one, George, laughs and says he thinks it's crazy that people call in and call them (George and Burt) "flaming liberals." Said that if listeners think that they (George and Burt) are liberal, let alone "flaming liberals", then the listeners are WAY too far to the right and should consider coming back to reality. We are well to the right of most people, George says. (George leans to the right pretty good.) If people thing what George says is liberal, then they are "crazy right" or something like that, George says.

Then they went on to slam Bush and the war and the economy and the loss of rights and such for the rest of my ride home, and so did the callers. Even the ones who ended with God Bless America and God Lead The President. This is a change from about a year ago. I enjoyed listening to AM talk radio (that didn't involve sports) for the first time in a long time.

Okay, so they didn't exactly slam Rush, but I had to get you to click.

2. They will.
George Kellas (sp?) owns the oddly popular local arena football team and has been around forever. Burt is also oddly popular with the listeners. I say that because he's an athiest homosexual, and this is a rural area. Maybe I should give people more credit. Burt is often correct, even if he is to the right of me. It tickles me when he corrects people that call him an agnostic. No no he says. Agnostics don't know for sure. I'm sure, he says.

Anyway, I don't think their jobs are in jeopardy. WWVA loves these two, and they're big enough (have you ever heard of Jamboree USA? It's a weekly Grand Ol' Opry type event that they've been broadcasting for a helluva long time. They have some pull, even though Clear Channel owns them, but CC needs WWVA more than WWVA needs CC.

3. WWVA?
DANG, I can hear them on a good night here in San Diego! What time are Burt and George on, I'll try to catch them.

4. Early evening.

I doubt you can get them then. Believe it or not, when it gets dark, I can't get them. I think they focus their broadcast towards the West at night. I don't know anything about radio, so I may be wrong. Anyway, I usually get mad at George and Burt, so I don't listen unless I'm in my car. So this is a guess: 4-7 PM. Or so.

Edited for clarification.

5. Nope, I won't get them.
I can hear WWVA late at night (Pacific time), when some of the stations out here shut down and we can get a good ionosphere bounce. Early evening, East coast time? No way.
Too bad.

6. You're not missing much.
I posted their remarks because they struck me as odd things for them to say. They may continue along this line, but somehow I doubt it.

Their show usually pisses me off at least once per day.
