Will 'The West Wing' go Republican?
http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/TV/10/14/apontv.westwing.ap/index.html

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- The prospect of a change in the White House tends to draw a strong reaction, pro or con.

Not from "The West Wing" executive producer John Wells, though. He seems unfazed by the coming end of Democratic President Josiah "Jed" Bartlet's tenure -- and maybe even a Republican successor.

"We were a year and a half into the administration when we started the show," Wells said of the NBC drama entering its sixth season. "We have term limits in this country and so, on our electoral schedule, Bartlet's second term would end a year from this coming January."

1. Does this mean goodbye to Martin Sheen
and hello John Goodman?

4. They can't possibly be thinking about going on with the show.
No Bartlet = No show

5. Doubt it would work, but...
John Goodman, in his brief role as the Republican SOTH/POTUS, was one of the few bright spots of the last couple of years. I'd at least give the WW another look if they brought him in.

7. The show will be lcuky to last
past this year. NBC is hurting and the demo for the show has been aging as the younger fans left the show to one of the zillion L&O/CSI clones etc. I hope that the better writing and the additions of Smits and Alda help, but it might be too late. From what I read it's hard to say if it will go beyond this season, so I hope that it can end gracefully. It's too bad really. I think it is my favorite drama, period.
