1. spybot search and destroy. update and install the tea timer |
|
you probably should run it in safe mode. gives it a chance to catch the programs while they are not running. I've gone to using the spybot and firefox internet browser. firefox is okay, but sometimes it can't display pages correctly. but I've been running it for 2 weeks now and I haven't had any pop up problems yet.
good luck.

2. Windows Update, "Ad-Aware" and "Spybot, Search and Destroy" |
|
I had to use all 4 of these things to clear up a similar problem a while ago. In my case I did the Windows Update last, but it was probably the thing that did the most.

Sorry to hear that. There is plenty of freeware out there that does great. AdAware and Spybot. There is also SpywareBlaster that keeps it off. The Google toolbar works for Internet Explorer but I have switched to Mozilla FireFox as my browser and it has popup blocking built in plus it is way less buggy. http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.htmlhttp://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

Spybot should find your problem, and it's online free. After you have Spybot "fix the problems", run it again next time you boot up. I had spyware that kept coming back after supposedly being fixed. Got Reg Clean--also free--and found a "winstaller" on my computer that shouldn't have been there and which I couldn't delete. It kept coming back. Ended up having to wipe my disk. Since then, I've switched to Netscape 7.2--free at Netscape.com--and really like it much better. Have lots fewer problems with their email program than I had with Outlook Express, my computer freezes up rarely now, it comes with a popup blocker, spell checker, and there's a freeware program at Major Geeks.com to eradicate Internet Explorer. Once you get rid of Internet Explorer and the endless patches Microsoft keeps sending out, you save an amazing amount of disk space! (Not to mention that you don't keep adding to those secret files that can't be accessed from Windows but keep copies of internet browsing logs, emails and who knows what else on your hard drive.)
Good luck, and consider Netscape--plus a really good firewall like Zone Alarm, also free online.

5. like others have said.. |
|
get Spybot Search and Destroy, along with Ad-Aware. Update both programs to get latest spy definitions, than run them on the most "thorough" setting. That should kill whatever you have.
Finally get Spywareblaster and update it too. Let it load on startup to keep spyware from loading in the first place (though you still want to run ad aware and spybot every week or so just to make sure you stay clean.)
There is one final program you may want to check out. Do a google search for "A Squared Malware Remover" to download the A Squared program...It gets viruses that the others may miss.
And finally...If you don't have a good antivirus program installed get AVG.
All free...all qualitty programs. Keep them updated and run scans periodically and you should stay spyware/virus free.

Get Firefox and use it instead of internet explorer. If you have AOL, you can still use it to browse the web. It is less vulnerable to spyware and popups, and it also happens to be MUCH BETTER to browse with (tabbed windows...you'll love em when you find out what they are!;) http://www.download.com/Mozilla-Firefox/3000-2356_4-10318752.html?tag=lst-0-1
