Air America making a Northwest Debut Monday!!!! (Seattle)
Starting Monday morning in Seattle!!!!

FINALLY! :bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce:

Air America Radio lands here Monday

Country-music fans tuning in to 1090-AM next week are in for a radical change. As of 12:01 a.m. Monday, KYCW will be KPTK, Seattle's new home for the liberal Air America Radio.

The New York-based network, home of Al Franken, Janeane Garofalo and other left-wing talkers, made the announcement yesterday. Before adding the Seattle station, Air America's Web site (www.airamericaradio.com ) listed 36 local affiliates and XM and Sirius satellite radio, which carry its programming along with its Internet broadcast.

1. Seattle is too obvious a market to do it
Hell, Seattle's more liberal a market than Portland, and KPOJ has been burning up the market down there.

Unfortunately, it seems like a very fractured market. I'm sure Entercom would have done it, had they not already sold their sole underperforming AM station there. Clear Channel doesn't own much in the way of AMs there, except for sports stations, and those usually make good money. What's interesting about this is that it's Infinity making the move. Will Infinity bring this to other markets where they have underperforming stations, like Baltimore and LA for example? That, coupled with some good news in the ratings books this week (New York, San Diego and Minneapolis, so far) must mean that the format is rolling out very quickly.

And they said it wouldn't work.

2. they'll be near the top of the ratings heap
if it's anything like Portland. AAR in Portland was SUCH a breath of fresh air when it started back on March 31. And all we heard from R/W'ers for years was "liberals don't have anything to say and nobaody wants to hear it anyway".
