Technical Post-Ideas and Techniques on making internet movies
Please post specific instructions here on how to make movies from television clips and how to upload to the internet. I'm going to post how I do it, on a post below this topic. If the mainstream media does not show certain things, WE CAN. For example, I don't know how many times I have read a post where someone says "Did you see that?" and then someone asks if someone got a clip of it.

OR, if a protest occurs, but mainstream television doesn't cover it, did it really happen? Yes, if we create movie clips of our own experiences and post them on the internet, linked for all to see.

I have really enjoyed making clips of Bush before, but don't have the heart for it now because I thought I was ridiculing someone who would be gone by now.

In any event, I'd like to see more people make clips and it's not that hard to do.

1. How I make movie clips using Dish DVR and a recordable DVD
I have a PVR from Dish (which I believe is being called now a DVR). When I see something I want to keep, I record it to PVR. Later, when I have time, I record those clips to DVD drive on DVD-RW disks. (Using a PC running Windows) The files created are .VOB, which have to be translated to a friendlier format, such as WMV, Mpeg, Rm, etc. The program I use for that is AVS Video Converter 3.2. After the file is converted to WMV format, I load it up in Windows Movie Maker and edit it. My movies are not very sophisticated, but Movie Maker lets you do transitions, titles, add music, sound, etc and cut/clip the frames. I usually, for size reasons, when saving the file, make it smaller than the recommended size, for internet disk space reasons.

After the movie file is made, I upload it to the internet and put a link up.

***I also have a program called RM Recorder that lets you, in some cases, record RM movies for your local drive.

****We don't happen to have this type of setup, but another way to record movies would be to put a tv tuner card in your PC and directly record that way.

2. If you have a video capture card
you can make them from videotape. If you have a DVD recorder you can upload the files themselves.

QuickTime format is preferable because it is supported on both Macs and Windows. Microsoft does not yet fully support Windows Media on Macs.

Important to not make them too bandwidth-heavy. 320x240 is a good size for internet streaming. You can also encode them as RealVideo for added compatibility.
