Both the Chicago Sun Times and Long Island's Newsday admitted in mid-2004 that they had cheated by reporting expanded circulation figures. An investigation was begun.

For at least the past five years, The Jewish Advocate doubles its circulaiton figures when the Post Office does its audit. It suddenly goes from a little over 9,000 subscribers to 20,000 subscribers overnight, for a period of only 3 weeks.

Those other newspapers are being investigated for a few percent here and there.

2. The Dallas Republican News

Got caught in the same scam about 6 months back.

Seems that advertising rates are all based on these figures and to inflate is simple theft from your clients. The DMN got caught and refunded the money and I guess I just missed the story about the criminals going to prison (they're the only paper in town.)

The way things are going one of these crooks will get a cabinet post in the Bush administration any day now.
