Frank Rich is an Anti-Catholic Bigot.
Frank Rich is truly a pathetic coward. Rich continues to diss on a movie he has never even seen. Apparently Jews can celebrate thier religion but us Catholics can't according to the moronic Rich. It is truly sad that months after Jayson Blair, we find that a hack reporter of equal cowardice and incompetence is still at the NY Times. Me l Gibson threatened Rich, and in his latest article he admitted to peeing himself when he heard those threats. This isn't surprising. Frank Rich has long been known around New York as a drunkard and a faggot, who is often found in Hells Kitchen getting "Bitch Slapped" by us Irish. Rich was recently "Punked Out" by Bill O'Reilly. The funniest part about all of this is that anyone who has studied religion knows that the JEWS DID have a hand in killing Christ, It's an established fact. Apparently Rich is so insecure about the Jewish religion, that he want's to re-write history. Fortuntaely here in America the public dictates what movies are shown, not a drunken, cocaine addicted "News Monkey" Like Frank Rich. The only good thing I will say about Rich is that he is probably a Democrat, just like most of us Irish. Unfortunately, he is also a loser who is a disgrace to our political party. The bootom line is that the movie will come out whether Rich likes it or not, and that fact that he can't stand that, makes me laugh.

1. WTF?
C'mon, give us at least a little context on your rant. There wasn't even a link to what you've been ranting about.

By the way, about that Christ thing. It was a combination of a mob and a politically narcissistic occupying imperial force that "killed Christ", not "the Jews" as a whole. Nor even the Irish. Or Frank Rich, whoever he is.

Confused. Moreso now than usual.

4. Frank Rich is a wrong, and what is being done to Gibson
Edited on Mon Sep-22-03 07:36 AM by Classical_Liberal
is indeed bigoted against Christians, but anyone who uses the term Faggot cannot be taken seriously, has no right to call anyone bigot and doesn't belong here, according to the rules of DU which were either not read or not headed.

Gibson never said or claimed the Jews killed Jesus. Indeed this notion is against Catholic Doctrine which says we are all responsible and that Jesus died for ALL OF US and our sins.

I am Irish and I want to know, who are you calling "we"?

Where is that Alert Button?

12. Can't Agree
I don't think Rich is wrong at all.

I think Gibson has got to get a life, get over his violence fetish, and stop worrying about who killed who 2,000 ago - who we're taught later "rose from the dead."

This may be hard to hear for people like Gibson, but human beings have suffered much worse deaths over the last 100 years. When I look at pictures of children starving in Africa, or the condition of the concentration camps victims we liberated in Nazi Germany (to name only 2 illustrations), I think Jesus had it easy. 18 bad hours and that was that. And, besides, his death fulfilled prophecy, and his alleged (since I wasn't there) resurrection was the key event that set Christianity in motion. Without that death and resurrection, Jesus is just another Jewish prophet.

Gipson is entitled to make any movie he wants, but, spiritually speaking, there's no reason whatsoever to make a movie that focuses on such a narrow and prejudicial window of Jesus' ministry as this movie does. Considering the number of right-wingers who are applauding this movie (people who strongly support capital punishment), I don't think this film is likely to have any meaningful impact on transforming our world into one where Jesus' philosophy of love, and of turning the other check, is more likely to get an honest hearing. When you add in the fact that Gipson's father was a Holocaust denier, and that finishing Daddy's work seems to be a big theme in American culture at the moment, I think Gibson's spiritual credibility has dropped even lower.

5. It wasn't them
Technically, it wasn't the Jews who killed Christ. It was the Italians (Romans) who did the actual deed. I wouldn't go after them, though. They're pretty sensitive about this.

8. Actually....
The present-day Italians are genetically and ethnically completely different from Ancient Romans. They can be both called Italians only geographically. By the way more than the faggot comments were offensive. And Gibson is anti-gay, though if you watch Gallipoli you'll see a STRONG gay undercurrent, not that that has anything to do about it. He's also a VERYVERYVERY conservative Catholic, who, if he knew his history, would know that the greatest enemies of Catholicism are fundamentalist protestants.

6. IT'S...JUST...A...MOVIE!
Who's Frank Rich, and why should we care about Mel Gibson or his movie? There are more important things in life, like getting our country back!

7. Your accusations against Frank Rich don't have a link. And the tone
of your article is offensive. Unless you can back up your wild accusations against Rich maybe you ought to edit your post.
