3. You've notice that too?
He comes on during my lunch hour at work and I SOOOOO wish it could be Al Franken instead. Then when I get off work, I still don't get Al Franken but Randi Rhodes instead--it's a real drag.

5. I've noticed that too, but I also don't think it's a bad thing
He's a former "rightie" himself, and all the better for others like himself to not think of him as a "wimp" or "girlie man" or whatever. The important thing anyway is the content of what he says, not how he talks anyway, and he has rushboy beat by a mile in that category.

6. Exactly
The "Rush-style" is the style that seems to work in talk radio. He may sound like Rush, but the words come out differently. :)

Like I have posted before, Ed is one of the hosts we need to reach out to middle America. Like it or not, the Franken/AA style will not work in the heartland.

Ed can be brutally honest at times (e.g. Moveon topic this past Friday). But that is what is needed. A open, venting debate 3 hrs/day 5 times a week.

If you still have doubts, PLEASE pick up his book. It is easy reading but there are many good points made on the level to reach out to most Americans, espically the Midwest and Plains citizens.

11. Straight Talk from the Heartland
I have read it and it is quite good.

Easy reading, but solid points for the common person (written in a way many right wingers can understand).

7. He'll be on 70 stations
in less than a year. With that kind of success he can sound like whomever he wants.

He doesn't lie like Rush does. He's not an addict like Rush is. He doesn't cave into the status quo like oxyboy does.
You saying he is the Rush of the left is, in my opinion, bullshit.

Ed has his place and he is a fantastic bridge from our side.

Your charactariztaion is idiotic. Are we just going to act like the righties and judge by looks and "sounds like..."?
What about CONTENT?. He makes a stand and has the juevos to deliver.

In other words, we need all styles from bombastic to subtle and all points in between. We must advance in the audio culture and not cap on each other. We must come together. The CONS rule the airwaves and this is "war". Don't shoot your on "soldiers".

Over 60 stations and climbing...Go Eddie!

12. Ed would support the privatization of Social Security....
if there was a Surplus. (Source: Today's show)

Ed is also pro-life. (Source: NPR Interview)

Chew on that.

14. Meaning
If there was a Surplus, there is enough money in to cover Social Security. And you can be Democratic and be pro-life. I would say many DUers are. Isn't that what being pro-choice is anyways? Just a different approach to minimize abortions.

18. Pro-life? Can you give us a link?
He's said that the Dems should NOT abandon abortion rights. I heard it myself.

And he's all over the privatization stuff. He hates the idea, according to what I've heard. This is DU, you need to back it up.

link?

Let's not fall into the pro-life-anti-abortion, pro-choice-pro-abortion word manipulation that is often used to mislead about what the actual possible stances are.

21. Agreed. I've heard him state that he soesn't want the party to
abandon the issue.

That doesn't make him pro- or anti- ANYTHING.

And I absolutely agree about the word manipulation. All of our views on the issue are far too complex for that.

17. Ed
Like all talk show hosts he is an actor. How much is an act and how much actual conviction? Let the psychologists decide after the sun red dwarfs...

20. Yes, that is partly true
but also if you want to get into his head, read his book, it show's Ed's stances in a way that does not have to be as entertaining as his radio show.
