Schultz has Record-Breaking Year
Progressive talker grows faster than Rush Limbaugh in first year of national syndication

"Schultz is the 800-pound gorilla of this (progressive) format" says Clear Channel

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - In his first year of national syndication, progressive talk show host Ed Schultz has broken Rush Limbaugh's record of 56 affiliates, by broadcasting on 70 stations - including the XM and Sirius satellite networks - from sea to shining sea.

Based in Fargo, North Dakota, The Ed Schultz Show is now heard in major markets including San Francisco, Boston, Detroit, San Francisco, Seattle, Minneapolis, Phoenix, Miami, Denver, and many others. The program will go live on WWRC in Washington, D.C. later this month.

Launched on January 5, 2004 in Needles, California and Langdon, North Dakota, The Ed Schultz Show was a new progressive alternative to right-wing radio and brought fairness and balance to the nation's airwaves.

Schultz was anointed "the 800-pound gorilla of this format" by Clear Channel Vice President for News/Talk/Sports, Gabe Hobbs.

3. Big Ed
While Big Ed has a great show, my one objection to it is that he gives too much air time to Bush supporting right wing radicals. He has been told often enough that those same reichsters already have more than enough time when they get on Limbaugh's show and others of that type. Still he persists in giving them even more time.

Then, when a political liberal or moderate calls in (and often to defend Ed's position on an issue) he cuts them off!

He says that there isn't enough time for them to voice their opinions on his show. So why the hell do they have time if they are reich wingers???

Whenever I hear him giving more time to reichsters I turn off his show. And ditto for others on the AAR shows.

4. Debating their positions
That is his approach there. Confronting them on their positions. Show them all the holes in their arguments. Many right winger talk show hosts (Rush included)do it to "lefties" all the time. Get on someone of the other side and go after them. It is part of the talk show format.

That's what makes him different from AA. He really reaches out to the other side instead of talking to the base all the time like AA. You need both and the format differences allow both to flourish and not overlap on everything.

5. I'm an Ed Head too
I couldn't have said it better myself. I like Randi Rhodes, but middle America isn't going to go for her.

Ed put out a call for funds for the recount in Washington state and his listeners responded. He does regularly hand right-wingers their ass.

We need Ed.

6. This is actually something I like about his show. He doesn't
have the calls screened, and he takes 'em on.

I think it's important to realize he's a former one of THEM. He knows their way of thinking, and he can beat them at their own game.

I agree, he often isn't willing to discus some issues with Lefties, but I think he is more concerned with CHANGING minds than supporting those on his side.

We must always keep in mind that it is still ENTERTAINMENT, so provocation is more interesting than agreement. It's the nature of the beast, and I don't ever see it changing.
