1. It's becoming successful in other markets as well
From my blog:

http://ltradio.blogspot.com/2004/12/ratings-roundup.html

* In Denver, KKZN looks to be another success for the format. The station leaps from 0.5 in it's previous stint with a sports format in the Spring book, to 0.9 in the Summer, to 1.2 in last month's trend report to an impressive 1.7 overall for the newest trend, covering September, October and November. KKZN flipped to 'progressive talk' on August 30. KKZN also shows in the Colorado Springs market, showing up for the first time ever with a 0.5, which is not bad considering the signal only covers the northern end of the market.

* KPTK in Seattle has only been doing the format since late October, so it's rating of 0.8 (unchanged from it's previous classic country stint) is still unclear. Stay tuned.

* In Columbus, WTPG rises slightly, from a 0.9 in it's previous format in the Summer book, to 1.0 last month to the current 1.2.

* Miami's WINZ registered at 0.7 in the Summer, rose to 1.0 last month, and jumps up to 1.3 for the current period.

* KXXT in Phoenix, fighting a tough battle in an overcrowded talk market, first showed in the ratings last month with a 0.6. It rises slightly to a 0.7.

* And the most recent trend report shows KABQ in Albuqueque, NM doing very well so far. In the most recent trend report, they have risen from 1.1 to a 1.8.

Look for two noteworthy sign-ons next week. WCKY (1530) in Cincinnati flips to liberal talk on Monday 1/17, and WWRC (1260) in Washington, DC flips on 1/20. The Cincinnati station has a very powerful signal that blankets most of the eastern United States after dark.

2. Great news!
We need more liberal talk radio in this country. I'm a big Malloy fan, myself.

3. Come on market work
I do believe in the general power of the market. While I believe it can be manipulated, it also reacts to consumer demands.

I remember a Faux news anchor interviewing someone talking about this issue. The Fox news guy was the blonde haired dude with a gap in his teeth and he said, “NOBODY wants it (Liberal talk)”.

I was so infuriated because NO ONE had been given a choice. Well, the choice is coming to the market and these people will find their little monopoly on ideas is soon to be getting a great challenge.

The best we can hope for is “business people” working under the auspices of “profit motivation” will begin allowing Liberal fare to be disseminated on their radio stations right along side their right-wing list. Of course, the spin will be one of “fairness”, but the only way Liberals will get on the radio is if they make these people money.

Conservatives I believe don’t have the same litmus test (as evidenced by O’Reilly’s horrible ratings share on radio). Donohue rolls out MSNBCs #1 talk show and he gets canned, soon to be replaced by a guy who is a hateful as one can be: Mike Savage.

It’s a slow process and as long as the powers that be don’t limit freedom we have a chance of getting our voices out there. That’s all we want or need.
