In this case, a mere suicide led to the train catastrophe.

Taxcuts also cut manpower of cops.
Taxcuts cut pothole repair.. school repairs.. bridge repairs.. jail beds.. food inspection.. tsunami warning system.. emerging disease warning outposts eg ebola detection outposts.. disease cure research at NIH.. et.

2. Job Shortage is the second deep cause of news items.

Job Shortage --> Poverty --> Hunger --> Crime

All stories of street crime can likely be traced to the Reaganomic {and earlier} policy of intentional Job Shortage. {now at 14 million, when discouraged included}

Hunger is at 12 million.

Stories of housefires.. due to poverty, mostly.. cant afford to fix heater, or electrician rewire job... then trace that poverty on back to the Job Shortage.

Carjackings... the Job Shortage people grabbing for money. If jobs for all, this would be rare.

When you wish to live in a modern society like ours you have to pool your money to build what you need. No one does this on their own, as they can not do it.

ditto, airplane, ditto internet, computers. All social products.

the term is an old LW term for what you said about roads.

Sometimes used to also argue that inventors should not be idolized.. they build on the shoulders of many.. of society in effect.. so inventors should not reap milions in patent royalties.. but should be on salary, be middle class.

Holland had/has this setup for writers, artists. On lifetime guaranteed modest salary, not starve or millions.. as here. Not sure if they did it for inventors.
