CNN's bizarre obsession with missing white girls / women
Edited on Fri Apr-29-05 11:08 AM by johnfunk
Tell me, does it bother anyone else? Do they believe it actually drives ratings? Do they think that the female demographic is going to forsake The Young and the Promiscuous and their other soaps to see this human interest tripe that has absolutely zero impact on my life, other than driving moralist memes to the morons?

Jeez.

CNN might as well be reporting on Brad and Angelian, or Tom and Kate... oh, right, they did that an hour ago...

'Scuse me while I :puke:...

1. Part of the dumbing down of 'Merika. The
powers that be think the average person has the brain power of a gnat, and provide 'news' accordingly.

2. Not just CNN.
I don't have cable, but my first thought when this story first broke was, "Oh, there's the next obsession." And it seems to be turning that direction. I truly feel for the families and loved ones affected by this, but it seems like the national news media should have better things to do.

7. This just in: Daryn Kagan got a haircut...
Gotta look good for El Rushbo (that is, if you believe it's actually a romance and not some publicist-engineered dodge).

8. I know, and the blatant bias of it is
what really gets me. They only appear to get obsessed with well-off or middle-class white women, as if shit like this never happens darker-skinned and/or less fortunate women. It does happen to them all the time, it's just that it's not considered important because they aren't the "important" women.

What really gets me, though, is the focus put on this instead of truly important news, like the bombings and casualties in Iraq yesterday, etc. CNN and my local news went on and on and on about the missing woman, then, and only then, did they spend maybe all of one minute on the Iraq news. It's enough to drive you to the looney bin!

4. These kinds of stories instill fear in the average CNN viewer
and therefore the average CNN viewer will consume more. The whole point is advertising, and, as Marilyn Manson pointed out in Bowling for Columbine, fear drives consumption. Frightened white folk spend big money!

9. I try to keep it on CNN INternational or BBC World...
...if only because the female presenters don't look have that over-made-up mandatory Roger Ailes Call Girl look you can't avoid on FAUX (innovator of the News Hooker look), CNN and MSNBC.

6. I'm tired of it too.
Yesterday I was complaining about this to my co-workers. It's also missing YOUNG white girls/women, too. Never older, non-white, or male people!
