Anti XM and Sirius radio spot
I am not kidding. I heard on a local San Diego sports station(1090am) yesterday a radio "ad" against satellite radio.

WTF?

It said how the children would be harmed by Howard Stern and some other guy (I forgot his name). At the end of the diatribe it said, "These are not the family values we want" or words to that affect.

There were no disclaimers as to who sponsored the bit.

It was laughable and sick at the same time. I am sure it was some Christian group.
Is this legal to not tell who sponsored the spot?

1. I heard 2 FCC-banned words listening to a classic rock station on Sirius
over Mem Day weekend (the F-bomb and the S-word).

I was glad there is still a broadcast medium in this country that is not censored.

2. These people are dumbasses
Radios, Internet, TVs, Video games are NOT babysitters. My mother took the time to check what I was listening to on the radio or watching on TV and I've found that most progressive thinking parents do the same thing. If there is something they don't want their kids watching or listening to - then turn it off. Use parental controls if necessary. These are your kids damnit.

It's groups like this mystery group that make me want to get satellite just to piss them off!

3. Clear Channel is as "Christian" as they come
An ad like that would serve two purposes for Clear Channel, bash the competition and increase self righteousness; what could be better? Ya know, whenever they pull the "what is good for the children" card, my skin just crawls, they really do think we are stupid. As I see it, Howard Stern isn't their real problem, it's Al Franken and Randi Rhodes they want to silence. Watching freedom of information slowly drift away here.

4. Clear Channel
If they want to silence Al And Randi I wonder why thy host Air America Radio then?

Now I am not sticking up for Clear Channel but my guess is that AAR is profitable for them.

5. CC plays hardball
This from Reclaim The Media: Let's imagine, say a year from now, that Air America's network has 200 affiliates. Of those, 100 are Clear Channel stations. One day, CC overlord Lowry Mays picks up the phone and calls Air America. "You know, I think (Show X) is crossing the line with their anti-GOP screeds. Can you get them to tone it down a notch? Otherwise, we may be forced to drop Air America from our stations."

A network that stands to lose 50% of its affiliates will bend under such pressure. (The figures in this hypothetical are arbitrary, but a lower number, like 30%, would still constitute a serious problem for Air America - especially if it stood to lose affiliates in larger markets.)

6. I LOVE my Sirius Radio
and those people can kiss my ass! ( how’s that for values). Some Sirius stations are bleeped but most as not. They want vulgar listen to the hip hop station, OMG!!! One night the DJs were talking about
"Oral Activities" and using all the big kid words to describe them, if you know what I mean. I needed a cold shower and a cigarette after hearing that.

I just love it, A free media service not controlled by the Fascist Control Committee!! Long live FREE Satellite and its $12 a month charge :)

7. This is not about Clear Channel or any of that.
This is about broadcast radio trying to stop losing market share to satellite radio. I work in the industry (satellite radio that is) and the trade press already mentioned this week that radio broadcasters would start running ads like this to stop losing listeners.

It's not a Clear Channel thing. It's all broadcasters vs. subscriber-based radio.

8. That makes sense
Also, it was funny how the spot mentioned how "obscene" Sirius will get when Howard comes over. How fucking stupid is that. We all ready have 147 "Raw Dog" and any number of DJ's letting it all hang out already.
