Court told Murdoch media sold editorial coverage

Big News Network.com Monday 19th September, 2005

Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation has allegedly made demands for payments for editorial coverage in its Australian newspapers.

The allegation spilled over in a major legal case underway in Australia involving the country's principal media players.

Sale of editorial coverage is a major no-no and has rarely arisen as an issue, although some suburban weekly newspapers and magazines regularly sell features which include what is commonly known is the business as 'advertorials.'

The allegation aired last week involved some of Australia's major daily newspapers and concerned their mainstream editorial coverage.

The legal case launched in Australia's Federal Court in Sydney on September 11 by Australia's Seven Network is pitched against Murdoch's News, Kerry Packer's Publishing & Broadcasting Ltd., which operates Australia's Nine Network, Foxtel, a joint venture between News, Publishing & Broadcasting, the Australian telecommunications giant, Telstra, and a number of other parties including the country's major sporting bodies, a total of 22 defendants.

1. So it's a foregone conclusion that Murdoch does it here too
And I thought he did for personal ideological purposes. I was wrong. He's actually just a whore.

3. Wow! Must Read!
"It concerns a mentality in which legal obligations, particularly those that have arisen under the Trade Practices Act, are simply regarded as another navigational hazard," he said.

"The problem is that using collusive agreements and economic muscle to break down competitors does make good business sense, which is why it is illegal in most advanced economies, with the exception of Hong Kong."

(snip)

News Corporation is a major player in the news business and has often come under criticism for its hard-right political lean. Heading News's Fox News Channel, and now Fox TV network (since the departure of Murdoch's son Lachlan), is Roger Ailes, the former Communications Director for the first President Bush.

Any allegation the corporation's editorial coverage can be comprised would do significant damage to the News Corporation organisation at large. The allegations made in the Seven dispute have yet to be proved.

At least the courts in Australia aren't afraid to touch MSM. Maybe it will catch on over here!

5. Please recommend and kick this thread.
This publicity may help unmask Fox (for those who, unlike most here at DU, haven't seen through the mask long ago).
