8. you got something better to do with your 10 cents? |

can we not perpetuate the right wing impression that npr is like the bbc, funded primarily by the feds?????
this is from their website-
NPR (National Public Radio) is a private, self-supporting nonprofit media company with hundreds of independent radio stations as members. NPR receives no direct federal funding for general support. NPR supports its operations through a combination of membership dues and programming fees from stations, contributions from private foundations and corporations, and revenue from the sales of transcripts, books, CDs, and merchandise. A very small percentage - between 1-2 percent of NPR's annual budget - comes from competitive grants sought by NPR from federally funded organizations, such as the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, National Science Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. At present, NPR's annual operating budget is approximately $100 million a year (2002 NPR Annual Report).
my local (chicago) station gets about 7% of it's budget from government grants, most of it state and local.

4. This is really great news! |
|
People will read this, and many will tune in out of curiosity. I'm not always pleased with their coverage, but I know they try to be as unbiased as they possibly can, unlike every other broadcast news outlet.

6. NPR is all I have to listen to |
|
Nothing else here for news during drive time except CleerChanul crap on AM. I sometimes listen to this for a laugh (Rush, Savage...) - but when the "unbiased" CleerChanul "news" starts spouting off about Our Great Leader or the daily "successes" in Iraq - I have to turn it off or risk purposly driving into an overpass to stop the CleerChanul voices in my head. NPR ain't perfect - but it's the best we got and I support them...
