Corporate Owners of Radio, TV Blasted at Hearing

SAN ANTONIO - Dozens of citizens, many forcefully expressing their frustration and anger at big media companies and broadcasters, told members of the Federal Communications Commission on Wednesday that broadcasters aren't always serving the community.

1. And Inside Michael Powell's

3. A side note...
This part caught my eye:

>>>FCC Chairman Michael Powell extended the hearing until everyone who'd lined up to talk had a chance to speak. Commissioners Kathleen Abernathy, Kevin Martin, Michael Copps and Jonathan Adelstein and most of the panel members, including activists, industry executives and artists, listened until the last speaker — at 11 p.m<<<

Wow. I went to a town hall meeting here in Reno a few months ago regarding electronic voting that SoS Heller attended and they cut off the public at 9pm. They'd only been there since 6pm; there were plenty more people who wanted to make comment.

4. The FCC gang stayed only for the 1st 1/2 of the hearing at Columbia
University when they started touring the country about increasing the ownership of television stations, etc. Mike Powell was the first one to take a powder. But none returned after the lunch break. And of course, that's when the hearing really got rolling.

I'm surprised that they stayed until the end of the San Antonio hearing.
