Your Computer can be used as a PVR ... TiVO / RePlayTV
All you need Is a TV Video Capture Card In your Computer.

I use the Leadtek WinFast TV2000 XP Deluxe Card

It sells for about 50 dollars

Then go to TitanTV and sign-up for a Free TitanTV account.

That's It ... You can now record your favorite Television shows on your computer.

Just log-In to TitanTV and click on the (red dot In the Gray box) that's to the right of the program you want to record.

1. thank you nomad
Do you happen to know if there is s/w for Win 98 or 2000? I'd really like to do this but don't feel like a Windows upgrade.

Great cost-saver over buying the regular Tvio or Replay system.

3. TV Card
NJCher ... Do you happen to know if there is s/w for Win 98 or 2000?

Are you asking If the TV Capture Card I use works with Win 98 or 2000? - Yes It does

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Good question Eric J in MN ... the TV Card has a built-In tuner that It records from, I'm not really sure If you can record premium cable channels using TitanTV.

You can record premium cable channels manually from your cable box.

Check the TitanTV forums, It may be possible to record off the cable box using TitanTV with some cable boxes.

5. Can you watch tv on your screen and be online at the same time
Yes, you can resize the screen to any size you want, and then minimize the control panel.

This screen capture shows the screen at It's smallest size.

7. A strong word of warning.
I have been playing with various TV capture cards, programs and other things. Learn this lesson and learn it well - I have tried to post it every place that someone talks about the "ease" of doing something with video and computers.

Working with digital video is akin to experimental witchcraft.

This is no joke. There are NO repeatable results in this stuff. You could have two identical high-priced systems, use the same hardware and software, and one will work part of the time and the other won't work at all.

It's based on two facts. Windows PC's are all radically different from one another, thanks to different Windows systems, different accessory cards, different programming (firmware) and different collections of programs on the computer. More important, the people who make video hardware DON'T want us to have something that reliably works. (If they did, we'd all dump TivO and our VCR's, since the computers are cheaper. They don't want us having cheap alternatives.)

So if you get a working computer record/playback/burn to DVD system, more power to you. But don't think your solution will work for anyone else. And if you move your computer two feet to the left of its current position, it will stop working.
