I must say I am disappointed, very disappointed so far. I'm gettng the same message, "please tune back..", right in the middle of the first decent thing I've heard on there, an interview with Sandy Berger. I listened for a while to Franken on the rebroadcast last nite. I'm sorry to say this, but I was bored. It sounded amateurish. I was expecting some sharp writing, skits and sound bites to keep this moving, interesting bumper music, strong emotion. What I heard was scattered, amateurish. Who's the chick that's with him ? She's little more than an annoyance. A call from G Gordon Liddy? WTF? is this to prove to right wingers that he's really OK? Joking about having people killed? Do we want conservatives to love us? I don't get it.
I loved his book, I love his humor every time I've heard him, I was really looking forward to this, but these people have to get a LOT better, FAST. If all they succeed in doing is preaching to the choir, and not drawing a larger audience, they lose, and we all lose this chance.

and look where he is.
This station just started, give it a minute. Most of these people have not done radio before, and they will get better. Be patient or listen to something else.

Great guests and his co-host reeled him in while teaching him the radio ropes. I like their 'back and forth'. I laughed, I cried and I'll be tuning in every day via the net. I'm in a 'pinch me I'm dreaming' mode. So, go figure. That's the way it is with humor and politics.
I expected to love it and I do. I'm setting my criticisms aside because they are breaking entirely new ground with this venture. And that's my 2¢ worth!
Edit: P.S. - Their aim *is* to preach to the choir. You see, the choir has not had an outlet of it's own and now we do. We are the target audience. So if all they ever do is speak to the majority to voted for Gore, in my book, they've succeeded. In doing so, they'll draw in some of the swing voters who thought that the last election was a time for a change. I know people like that and they're open to not voting for the shrub again.

Check out how long it took Rush to go nation wide. His show didn't just happen the way it is now. It evolved over time to the propaganda piece it is today....these folks we are listening to are virtual new-borns in the talk radio world. Give them a year or two before it really takes off. I'm so glad to have radio I can listen to that doesn't dangerously raise my blood pressure.
Rush does nothing but preach to the ditto heads, I'm glad to have some folks to listen to that I can 'ditto' for a change.

8. Does ANYONE know if these shows are being archived |
|
anywhere? I was TRYING to (capturing the streaming audio, editing out commercials, and making them into mp3s), but on the airamericaradio.com stream, it cut off the rest of Franken tonight. :( I'm discouraged. I know NOW that I can use another link, but that's too late for recording purposes.

In fact, as a person who works in TV, I see no problem in the feed including commercials. (If the commercials are heard, then the show can continue. Without the commercials, the network will die. Air America costs money to run; that's why the ads.)
What AAR should do is offer feeds of shows of the PREVIOUS day as either MP3's or live streaming Windows Media Players files, including the commercials. They can tell their advertisers that their spots are reaching an audience way beyond their few transmitters. (This may enable them to charge more for their ads.) And perhaps they could archive the feeds for a week before replacing them.
This lets their good work to be heard by we people outside their current limited broadcast areas, their sponsors get their spots heard, and a one-day delay makes it slightly more difficult for jerks like Rush Limbaugh to dissect the broadcasts and attack AAR sentence by sentence.
(And don't forget the petition to get Apple to put AAR on its iTunes radio lineup. Remember that iTunes is now available free for Windows computers too, and it's a great audio system.)
