Air America yanked off the air in Los Angeles
Does anyone know what happened? The AirAmericaRadio.com website says it was unexpected and they may sue. What the f#$&?

From the site:

Statement Regarding WNTD in Chicago and KBLA in Los Angeles

Statement of Evan Cohen, Chairman of Air America Radio:

"Air America Radio is temporarily unable to be heard on WNTD in Chicago and KBLA in Los Angeles, but Chicago and Los Angeles listeners can still hear our broadcast on the web at airamericaradio.com and on XM Satellite Radio (channel 167).

"MultiCultural Radio Broadcasting's conduct in this matter has been disgraceful. To shut off a broadcast that listeners rely on without warning and in the middle of discussions is the height of irresponsibility and a slap in the face of the media industry. In addition, it is a clear violation of their contractual obligations, and we are seeking legal remedies against them in court."

it goes something like this. AAR is renting airtime from Liu's company for both Chicago and LA under separate contracts for each market. They started renting the airtime for these 2 stations a month or more prior to going on the air, and this is where the problem comes in. Apparently, Liu was airing other programming on the LA station during the time that AAR had rented the airtime, but not yet gone live, and charging another company while charging AAR.

AAR found out about this breach of contract and put a stop payment on the check for the LA airtime untill this got settled. It should also be noted that there was no problem with the Chicago station, everything was payed up, and there was no funny business. Well, Liu apparently flips out and pulls the plug on both feeds, even though Chicago was separate from LA in terms of being payed for. So AAR is taking them to court seeking, among other things, a temp. restraint or something like that to get back on the air, and there will no doubt be breach of contract stuff as well.

On a station with no content to broadcast?

Your explanation makes no sense.

I assume the vague description of the issue may be due to a potential lawsuit? The station is back to being an all spanish channel - which is fine, but there are already a lot of spanish stations on AM in LA, but only one AirAmerica. Amazing.

On edit:

Thanks for the update Orestes - I am amazed that none of this has been mentioned on the local TV or press yet.
