Torture photos press coverage |
|
I'm curious - the British quality daily papers all have these torture photos on the front page. How about the papers in the US?

...as per usual. I have to go to UK news sites just to get the real story most of the time.

Are people just pretending that it didn't happen? Or that the rest of the world isn't talking about it?
I heard on the news today that there is going to be a reading out of all the names of the American dead on US TV today - the suggestion is that this is to take attention away from the 'torture' issue - or maybe to suggest in some way that 'they' deserved it. Any comments?

7. They aren't pretending, they just don't know |
|
A lot of people here get *all* their news from Fox or MSNBC. If these two stations don't talk about it, they literally don't know it's going on. And hey, what's this 'rest of the world' you're talking about ?? ;)
British/German news tends to be where I go for a better look at most stories... :(

8. I don't think that's the motivation... |
|
I'm pretty sure it was planned before the torture photos broke, plus just reading the names of American dead is highly controvertial in Bush's America. There are threads here discussing how some right-wing outlets are refusing to air it.

hardly a mention. Our papers seem to be more and more govenment controlled. or Pro government controlled.
We look to other countries to get the real news.

6. First I heard of it (anyplace other than 60 minutes), was today, |
|
right after Bush issued his phony-balony condemnation of the whole episode.

Are you guys crazy? Are you blind??? This story is front page news over here in the U.S. Go to any news site and you'll see it featured prominently as the lead story:
www.drudgereport.com www.foxnews.com www.msnbc.com www.nytimes.com
They may not be splashing the pictures around here like they are in England or on Aljazeera, but you definitly see them. Regardless of whether the pictures are displayed the story is in the news everywhere.

12. My original question was asked last Friday |
|
- when the pictures were front-page news everywhere else and seemed to be 'invisible' in the US. No doubt since then the US press have been unable to keep pretending the story wasn't there.
