Why is Peggy Noonan so utterly despicable???
Excerpt from her recent op-ed in the WSJ on her meeting with Catholic bishops regarding recent Church scandals:

So, we are demoralized. But there is help. I spoke of the scene in Mel Gibson's movie, "The Passion," which I knew some in the audience had seen in screenings. Mr. Gibson had attempted, obviously, to base his film on the Gospels. But there are a few moments in which what might be called his art asserts itself, and he does it his way. There is one scene like this that for me was the great moving moment of the film. The broken and brutalized Christ falls under the weight of the cross. He is on his way to Golgotha. He's half dead. When he falls, his mother runs to help him, and he looks up at her, blood coming down his face, and he says, "See, mother, I make all things new again."

I quoted this dialogue to the bishops and the cardinal. And when I said the words Christ spoke in the film my voice broke, and I couldn't continue speaking. I was embarrassed by this, but at the same time I thought, Well, OK.

What choked me was thinking of Jesus. And thinking of how we all want to be new again, and can be if we rely on him; but it's so hard, and deep in our hearts while we believe we do not believe, could not believe, or else we'd all be new again.

Anyway, I regained my composure and concluded my remarks with some hard advice. I said the leaders of the church should now--"tomorrow, first thing"--take the mansions they live in and turn them into schools for children who have nothing, and take the big black cars they ride in and turn them into school buses. I noted that we were meeting across the street from the Hilton, and that it would be good for them to find out where the cleaning women at the Hilton live and go live there, in a rent-stabilized apartment on the edge of town or in its suburbs. And take the subway to work like the other Americans, and talk to the people there. How moved those people would be to see a prince of the church on the subway. "They could talk to you about their problems of faith, they could tell you how hard it is to reconcile the world with their belief and faith, and you could say to them, Buddy, ain't it the truth."

http://www.opinionjournal.com/columnists/pnoonan/

END EXCERPT

Imagine if she said those words to the likes of Ken Lay or Dick Cheney: take the mansion you live in and turn it into a school for children.

It would never happen. But you eventually see that the motivation behind such a move is really not of genuine concern for the poor, it's to make the poor think you're on their side -- but only THINK it -- so that when they complain of their poverty, you can say, "Buddy, ain't that the truth."

She's so utterly despicable.

She repulses me. She should be receiving ECT(Electro Convulsive Therapy)at this time and then placed in a long-term care public facility for people with mental disabilities and no health insurance---yes a snake pit.

have to offer free advice to the bishops - advice that she herself would never take.
I'll bet at the end of that meeting she set her fat ass down on the leather backseat of a limo and had a stiff drink from the servi-bar while being whisked off to her mansion - oblivious to any signs of poverty she might have passed along the way. If there's anything worse than a repuke, it's a repuke who pays hypocritical lip service to the plight of the downtrodden. God, that woman is a shithead.

4. Deep down in side her...
Peggy probably thinks that she, and the rest of the repukes, carry on a running conversation with God.

I talked to Him about that, the other day. He said he's really getting chapped by their presumption. ;-)

6. I have my own personal knowledge of Peggy Noonan from high school
Edited on Fri Sep-26-03 10:44 PM by Gloria
She was a phony then! A few of us had a little group we called "The Resistance" ...she was a hanger on. In the yearbook, she said she was a member of it...which was a lie. While trying to ingratiate herself with us, she was also trying to put the moves on my boyfriend!

I thought she was an absolute snake!!!

9. Maybe not...?

I think we should be careful with the personal shots. MY college roommate went to high school with Hillary Rodham, where he said no one particularily liked her either. So what does one's past really prove?

It only proves one thing: No one ever escapes high school!!

My personal belief is anything you did in high school, or up to the age of 23 or so, should be forgiven for what it is - you're just too darn stupid to know better. (I like old people. They have great stories and have experienced more of life than others. You get older, you get mellow and gain wisdom. I personally believe that no one should be nominated for a seat on the Supreme Court if they are under 65 - among other criteria.)

Take Noonan on for the trash she writes, argue her points, skip the rest.

11. Well...I'm going to disagree...
I went to the link and read them again. I think both a little long in "I" and "Me", brothers, boyfriends, college stories, hairdo’s, and little other than Noonan and the authors had met in the past; and short on presenting analysis. It is only until you get to the very end of the second story is there anything informational, and even that is light. There is no argument, then evidence.

As an example, here is one that I think is far better. It is an excerpt from The New Republic’s Jonathan Chait, and his story, “Right Reverent” (March 25, 2002)

“Earlier this year Noonan wrote an entire column praising Bush for prohibiting his staff from leaking to the press. One year before, she denounced Clinton for the same thing. "The code of omerta," she thundered, "ran strong and was obviously enforced."

Now, compare Chait’s style with the author’s: “Her screeds in the Wall Street Journal are unnerving in their wild-eyed vitriol. They are becoming more and more psychotic.”, with no illustrations of Noonan’s vitriol or psychosis.

More from Chait:
“Noonan defended Bush's vicious attacks on McCain in the South Carolina primary, which included racial innuendo and disparagement of his military record. "You make the best case possible for yourself and what you stand for, and you paint your opponent in less attractive light," she lectures. "That's what politics is." Unless, of course, a Democrat is practicing politics. "Al Gore is surrounded by tough mean operatives whose sole political instinct is to rip out the other guy's guts and dance in the blood," she later raged.”

Good writing. Point, evidence, and not a word about Noonan's personal past or grooming.

My opinion.

19. for what its worth
I did get a degree from the University of Texas, but my education went as far as the 9th grade and a GED - after I got out of the Navy. You CAN escape high school.... but I would not suggest taking that route. but i NEVER spent a minute of my life in high school.

Noonan is an embarrassment and propagandist. She has NO credibility. I feel sorry for her. Kinda.

in Bush I's nomination speech were her words because she wrote the speech.

He and his son's Presidency's are far from kindler or gentler. That alone tell's you something about her.

I didn't know she had a drinking problem...that explains a lot, I just thought she was a raving lunatic...what is it with these repug Bimbos? Simpering Sycophants all...I saw her on "Hardball" the other night, critiquing the Democratic Candidates...my mouth was hanging open listening to her...all coy and giggly and dripping venom!
And of course, Matthew's the "I don't know if I'm a Democrat anymore"

Sorry about that...just had to get it off my chest!

This is the start of "Peggy Noonan"

That children dying in trailer fires on their knees
Praying to Jesus was proof of
God's wise and infinite love
And all I could do was agree
What else could I do but agree?

18. I had to read her book
"What I saw at the Revolution" was required reading for my government class in high school (conservative catholic school, and this was just after the '94 election)...I wanted to scrub myself with a steel wool brush after reading it...She was so enamored with reagan in the book, I actually thought she might've had some sort of illicit affair at the time...
