What don't Republicans like about New England?
Edited on Fri Jan-23-04 07:18 PM by ih8thegop
I just don't get it!

New England used to be solid Republican Territory. Maine and Vermont, for example, voted for more Republican candidates for President than any other state - heck, they chose Alfred Landon for President in 1936 over FDR, which no other state did!

Now, these Republicans are attacking the same region of the country that used to support them the most!

What is it? Why the dreastic change in attitude about New England?

Was it John F. Kennedy? Was it Micharel Dukakis? Was it McGovern's win in Massachusetts, which prevented Nixon from getting a 50-state sweep?

Was it, indeed, the sudden Democratic shift in new England over the last fifty years?

1. simple, New England votes Democrat...
the same could be said about Democrats and what they don't like about the South, that always used to be solid Democrat country and now is not.

2. I think there are several reasons
that I can think of: New Englanders are very independent, keep government out of their lives people. The current Repuke party wants to interfere in everything, especially in the bedroom. Doesn't go over big. The level of education is higher than the rest of the country, educated people don't fall so easy for their crap and they see what little value they put on education. The Age of Enlightenment began up here, definitely not part of the Repuke value system.

4. Same reason...
as why the South went from Democratic to Republican.

When the Republican stopped being the liberal party, New England switched.

When the Democratic party stopped being the racist party, the South switched.

7. Well for one thing,...
I doubt the rest of the country would like anybody saying they were smarter and more educated.
