Are there non-dollar denominated market index funds? |
|
Most of my equities investment is in S&P-500-based index funds. Can I buy a Japanese, a European, and a whole-world index fund?

1. Try a mutual fund family like Fidelity |
|
www.fidelity.com
You do NOT have to register or log in if you then click on "Investment Products", then "Mutual Funds", then click on "FundsNetwork"
There are Japanese and European sector funds and much much more. I don't know about index funds for these, but it's worth an afternoon looking thru this site for them.
Happy hunting.

3. You could start your research at morningstar |
|
http://www.morningstar.com/aspxsl/full/fundStarRatingList.htmlYou can have the listings sorted by category or by fund name and narrow down your search. Then research the funds holdings on your own. You can do it at Morningstar, but I think that's where the get you for a fee.

There are a series of mutual funds but they have an overall lock in to their "family" for a long period.
There is also Evergreen bank where you can stash your cash, as a domestic account, in foreign currency.
Then there is commodities trading in foreign currencies, but this is futures purchase which entails risk.
