AFLCIOmembers:get word to Sweny:his emails take 75secnd dnload:been so 4
Edited on Thu Jan-27-05 02:49 AM by oscar111
over six months, despite my emailing them about the problem.

All my other downloads take fifteen seconds for that type of white bkgnd newsletters to activists, from other LW groups.

Also, after downloading one of AFLCIO long download newsletters, my cpr acts badly for a week.. freezing, long dwnloads with other sources, etc.

I emailed them four months ago, no change, no reply.

These long dnloads happen with newslttrs from all my 2 or 3 AFLCIO groups.. both main site ones, and Working Families e-activist network.

I have stopped reading their emails, afraid of messing up my cpr. Surely thousands of others have too. This ought to get fixed pronto.

I paste here the latest nwslttr, so you can be exact as to what is affected.. get word to sweeney and make him fix this. My email did no good. {PS disappointed that Sweeney's newsletter did not mention expanding AAR or making a clone of it run by the union.}

Paste:
From: peoplepower@aflcio.org(John Sweeney, AFL-CIO President) Date: Thu, Jan 27, 2005,To snip//

Subject: Are You Ready?

A Message from AFL-CIO President John Sweeney
Dear Working Families e-Activist:
Every day I hear from working family activists who are ready and snip/////....

are not either. I look forward to our work together.
In solidarity,
John Sweeney
AFL-CIO President

1. how to fix the emails
Edited on Thu Jan-27-05 12:57 PM by Robert Oak
You can block some images from being downloaded in the email in your
settings in outlook. I have no problems with their emails, but I also
block images in HTML emails.

I looked over the HTML code of the email
There is only 1 image they are downloading, it's a standard css
descriptor above the body ..in other words, there is nothing in there
to take 75 seconds unless you are downloading the image, but the image
is only a 11KB file which is small.

May I suggest your email client is having a rough time parsing HTML
emails?

At bottom of the AFL-CIO email is a link to your profile on the AFL-CIO mailing list. You can also choose to have your emails sent to you in plain text.

If what I'm saying makes no sense, email me and I'll help you fix your settings.

In terms of the AFL-CIO I think another thread started on what's wrong/right with unions currently and what needs to change might be good.

2. Only AFLCIO creates this email prob.:Problem is them, not my browsr or

email agent.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply, tho. you put some work into that, and i appreciate the try.

No other email newslttr , of any format, including the images you spoke of, takes so long to download...

and during that dwnload, locks up my cpr so i cannot back out of the dwnload, as i can with all others,
then messes up my cpr in several odd ways for days to a week.

It is a problem unique to the AFLCIO. They are the center of the problem. They need to hear of it and fix it. Pronto.

Since you seem to know of the AFLCIO, perhaps you can tell them in human speech. They ignored my email. I am totally frustrated with their ignoring me. For months.

Wonder how many thousands are , like me, deleting their newsletters now? Not good for the union movement.

I may try the plain text option you mentioned, but how about the thousands who dont know of that, and will just continue to delete any newsletters from AFLCIO?

Plus, AFLCIO needs to hear that they ought not ignore emails to them. Even a reply of "we cannot answer all but we read all and consider them" would improve how we feel about them. They dont even do that. Turkeys.

A new newslttr today. I plan to delete it. No choice, really. Turkeys.

Maybe turkeys are partly why unions have been cut in half since 1950... 3O% to 15%.

3. Displays/downloads fine on thousands of systems
Seriously. I happen to be an engineer and the AFL-CIO sends that out to many activists with no problems. I already looked at the HTML
and there isn't anything that would cause problems in the HTML code.

But, your error suggests problems with your settings, potentially
a server block, a virus/firewall program, blocking the reference
URL for the images or possibly crashing on the .style parsing.

Your ISP could also be the problem, refusing a download from an email client (as well as your settings).

There's no way to debug it without knowing your email client, OS
and anti-virus/firewall settings.

May I suggest either unsubscribing (bottom of email) or change
your settings to plain text?

Simply changing to plain text emails makes these problems go away
and you can still read whatever the latest AFL-CIO action item is
just fine.

You can also go to their website and see the latest emails.

I don't see any reason to flip on the AFL-CIO (while there might
be other reasons to flip on them) when it's highly suspicious that
the problem is with your configuration/ISP (they can block
certain MX records too the freaks)
