B.C. forest workers' union serves strike notice

The union leader for forestry workers in British Columbia announced Monday that he has served 72-hour strike notice in an aggressive manoeuvre he hopes will bring employers to the bargaining table.

“As far as we're concerned, industry should give us a call and come sit down at the table,” Dave Haggard, president of the Industrial, Wood and Allied Workers of Canada, said after addressing members at a union conference.”

“Let's get negotiations moving along and lets look for the solutions they keep yapping about and won't do anything about.

“We're not the ones that won't go to the bargaining table,” Mr. Haggard said.

The notice means as many as 12,000 coastal loggers and mill workers could strike as early as Thursday.
