June DOL: Less hours worked in US than in June 00 - population growth?
employment "growth".

Perhaps meaningless as to the US's economic health is the "great" 5% UE rate and all those pretend new jobs that are stay at home folks that year after year are just not getting around to paying a payroll tax (otherwise we would not have to add them back - all prior increases in the pretend birth/death number - each month to the payroll tax numbers - and of course without the growth in the pretend folks that year after year never pay that payroll tax, Bush does not have ANY job growth - and remove new gov jobs under Bush and the private sector is in a hell of a recession - but we will not talk about that).

Perhaps better as a measure of economic health is that old labor demand measure of total hours worked in the economy . While employment is above its pre-recession peak, total hours worked is still 1.4 percent below its pre-recession peak

1. JOB SHORTAGE best econ health measure, not others
Edited on Mon Jul-18-05 03:07 PM by oscar111
i contend the bottom line is the JS.

SEE My sig for details, sources.

JS refutes the Rush charge "lots of jobs , just look at the newspaper want ads - pages of them - you are lazy bums if youre jobless" All other stats leave one open to this reply from Rush.

Only 3 million jobs nationwide. 17 million jobless and discourged seekers of jobs. 14 million Job Shortage, the bottom line.

only when JS is zero, will we end poverty. Poverty causes street crime.

Jobs for all ends street crime.
Again, see my sig.

so focus on the JS, not odd fractional stats that the MSM feeds you to keep you confused.

BTW, sweden kept joblessness below ONE PERCENT for decades, so it can be done. WPA and co=ops and "share the work" can co it.

using these three means, plus sheltered workshops or grants for the OWS.. "old, weak and sick", we can end joblessness, poverty, homelessness, hunger and street crime ... literally overnight.

wouldnt you like to end 95% of street crime and burglary?

2. Does Job Shortage = Clinton participate rate times current population
less current job count?

If so I tend to agree with the concept - but getting agreement on the participation rate to use is difficult.

The "want to work" number is hard to nail down, But I'd go with Clinton's high water mark as the appropiate goal.

Meanwhile the folks in the US work fewer hours in total than under Clinton's 2000 numbers. Since the Bush DOL claims more working, a lot of use are into part-time work!

4. papau, "want 2 work" stat is fm site of Jobs for All
they use "discouraged" as the key stat to add to official jobless. Site ought to give source for it. Forget the source right now.
